Mary Bonnet, a prominent figure in the world of luxury real estate and a familiar face on the reality series *Selling Sunset*, has announced her departure from the show ahead of its tenth season. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Bonnet, who has been with the series since its inception, expressed her growing dissatisfaction with the direction in which both the programme and her workplace were heading.

Bonnet’s decision comes amidst significant shifts within the cast as it was reported that she, along with co-stars Emma Hernan, Chelsea Lazkani, and Sandra Vergara, would not be returning for the upcoming season. This shakeup has led to swirling speculation regarding the reasons behind their exits and the overall state of The Oppenheim Group, the real estate agency featured in the show.

“I’m the vice president of The Oppenheim Group, so no, I’m not fired,” said the 45-year-old Bonnet, maintaining her professional standing while confirming her departure from the reality series. She elaborated on her dissatisfaction by reflecting on her experience during season nine, which she believes portrayed her unfavourably. “At the end of season nine, it was clear to me that I wasn’t pleased with the direction of the show or the office,” she remarked.
Bonnet had initially joined *Selling Sunset* with the hope that it would champion women’s empowerment and serve as a positive platform for the real estate industry. Unfortunately, she feels that the show has strayed from these values. “It’s taken a turn from that,” she lamented, highlighting her disappointment with how the narrative has evolved over the seasons.
A significant factor influencing her decision to step back was the editing of season nine, which Bonnet termed as “extremely unfair.” She felt that her reactions were presented without context, creating a misleading narrative that could be seen as damaging. “It looked like I was just overreacting the whole season,” she explained, asserting that this portrayal was something she could no longer be associated with.
While Bonnet has made it clear that for now, she will not be part of the cast, she has not completely ruled out a future return. She hinted that if changes are made for season eleven, she might reconsider her involvement. “Something has to change, and hopefully it will by season eleven,” she shared, indicating a willingness to revisit her decision depending on the show’s evolution.
In the meantime, Bonnet is looking towards new opportunities outside of reality television. Alongside her role at The Oppenheim Group, she has launched a passion project centred around animal rescue. Her commitment to this cause has intensified after witnessing distressing conditions in local animal shelters, where she found many animals in dire need of care. Currently, Bonnet is fostering eight puppies and two adult dogs, many suffering from serious illnesses.
“I’ve been in isolation taking care of these animals, providing them with medications and medical care,” she detailed, emphasising her dedication to nursing them back to health. This undertaking reflects her desire to make a positive impact beyond the confines of reality television.
Looking ahead, Bonnet remains optimistic about her future and encourages her fans to stay tuned for what comes next. She has expressed excitement regarding the new projects she is working on, which she hopes will align more closely with her values and aspirations.
As Bonnet steps away from the drama of *Selling Sunset*, it is clear she is ready to embrace a new chapter in her life—one focused on her career in real estate and her commitment to animal welfare. Though her presence will be missed by fans of the show, her determination to pursue a path that resonates with her ideals is undoubtedly admirable.
