Former ‘Sex and the City’ star Jason Lewis, best known for his role as the charming Smith Jerrod, recently re-emerged on Instagram following a three-year hiatus from the public eye. The 54-year-old actor shared insights into his current venture: a nine-book fantasy series that he has been diligently crafting since taking a step back from his Hollywood career.

Lewis made his literary ambitions known in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, revealing he now resides in Costa Rica, where he dedicates a significant portion of his day to writing. He described his writing routine as one that typically involves two-hour sessions, within which he aims to produce between 1,000 and 2,000 words. “I chose to start at the end,” he remarked, indicating the books are structured to reflect the epic storytelling akin to that of J.R.R. Tolkien’s ‘Lord of the Rings,’ while also incorporating elements from the realm of science fiction.

Elaborating on the thematic depth of his upcoming series, Lewis explained that the narrative will explore complex subjects such as idealism and redemption. He stated that the first book presents an optimistic tale, while the second exposes how noble intentions can lead to disastrous outcomes, embodying the transformation into a monster to protect oneself. The series aims to culminate in a story of redemption.

Despite not yet securing a publisher, Lewis shared that he is gearing towards completing the fourth draft of the seventh book, which he believes will serve as a pivotal point in the broader saga. “It’s a triptych,” he explained, referencing the interconnected stories that delve into themes of power, agency, and the moral implications therein.
Lewis also expressed his ambition to weave real scientific phenomena into his narrative, despite lacking a formal scientific background. His interest in physics, particularly quantum theory and concepts posited by physicist Richard Feynman, has influenced his writing. He noted, “I’ve paid attention to it over the years,” suggesting that ideas such as energy transforming into matter resonate deeply in his narratives.
The actor recently shared a video message on Instagram that marked his return to social media after a prolonged absence. In the clip, he communicated that his quieter period was not due to a lack of creativity, but rather a necessary focus on his writing project. “I went quiet. Not because I have nothing to say, but because I had something to do,” he explained.
In his message, Lewis emphasised that creative endeavours often demand singularity of focus, and he felt compelled to see the project through without distractions. “It’s the kind of work that needs to find its people, though,” he stated, hinting at the desire for his writing to resonate with readers who share an appreciation for his storytelling.
Throughout the course of his career, Lewis has maintained an affection for his role on ‘Sex and the City,’ especially his character’s supportive relationship with Kim Cattrall’s Samantha Jones during challenging times. Now, however, he seems eager to leave that chapter behind and embark on a new journey as a novelist.
With plans to continue his literary pursuits, Jason Lewis remains committed to developing the expansive fantasy universe he has envisioned. His initial foray into writing appears promising, leaving fans and followers curious about the intricacies of his forthcoming series. As he navigates this new phase in his career, it is clear that Lewis is not merely seeking to entertain, but rather to explore profound concepts through his unique storytelling lens.
