In a heartwarming journey across the United States, Jacob Giasomo, 25, and his godfather Larry LeBron Jordan Lee, 60, have transformed their lives while forging a deeper bond. At the age of 18, Jacob graduated from technical college with a degree in carpentry technology, envisioning a bright career ahead. Concurrently, he found himself stepping into a role he hadn’t anticipated—as a caregiver for Larry, who has cerebral palsy. The initial plan was straightforward: Larry would move in temporarily with Jacob’s family in St. Louis, Missouri, as he sought long-term support. As time progressed, Jacob integrated Larry into his carpentry work, initiating regular interactions that fostered a remarkable friendship. Having recently turned 60, Larry expressed a profound desire to visit all 50 states. Amongst the grandeur of mountains and national parks, some of Jacob’s most treasured memories are found in the serene moments shared with Larry and their pet rabbit, Oreo. He vividly recalls a time when they took a break while climbing a mountain; exhaustion set in as Jacob pulled Larry’s wheelchair with Oreo on his back. They found themselves resting in a hollowed tree when a deer unexpectedly joined them, encapsulating the magic of the moment.
The journey, though filled with joys, has not been without its challenges. An incident in Las Vegas saw Larry’s wheelchair stolen from the back of their van, forcing the pair into a scramble for a replacement. This setback led them to walk more than 12 miles across the city, only to fortuitously find a blowing $100 bill that helped them cover accommodation and meals for the night.
Despite these hurdles, Jacob highlights that the most rewarding part of their travels is watching Larry interact with people they meet along the way. Larry, with an infectious zest for life, encourages Jacob to connect with others, especially children who may feel isolated due to disabilities. Through these interactions, Larry endeavours to inspire them, illustrating that there are no limits to one’s potential.

Recently, the duo returned to Buffalo to celebrate Larry’s milestone birthday with friends, family, and former teachers. Jacob notes with a smile that Larry’s enthusiasm for travel grows stronger, prompting the addition of new experiences to his bucket list.
