On May 21, Hailey graduated from Chaffey College in Rancho Cucamonga, marking a significant milestone as she became the first high school student to deliver a commencement speech at the institution. Just a week later, on May 28, she received her high school diploma from Hesperia High School. June will see the ambitious teen add another academic accolade to her list when she graduates from Victor Valley College in Victorville.

By the end of June, Hailey will hold the extraordinary achievement of four associate degrees: two in business administration, one in mathematics and science, and another in social and behavioural sciences. This accomplishment sets her apart as a bright young mind eager to carve out a successful future.

Hailey’s commitment to her studies has been nothing short of intense. She prioritised her academic pursuits over leisurely activities, having not watched television for four years. Instead, she dedicated her time to studying, training with her soccer team, and navigating the college application process. “I feel like doing all that extra work allowed me to become extraordinary,” Hailey remarked, clearly proud of her efforts and achievements.
The inspiration for such an intensive educational path came during her sophomore year of high school. Encouraged by her mother, Hailey seized the opportunity to participate in a dual enrolment programme offered by Chaffey, Victor Valley, and other community colleges in California. This programme allows high school students to earn up to 11 college credits each semester, paving the way for a seamless transition into higher education.
Hailey’s journey doesn’t stop at community college. This autumn, she is set to attend the prestigious Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley as a junior transfer student. With aspirations of becoming a corporate lawyer, she is determined to make a name for herself and inspire others, particularly as a first-generation Latina in pursuit of higher education.
To alleviate the financial burdens of her upcoming college experience—covering tuition, housing, and other expenses—Hailey’s family has established a GoFundMe campaign. They described her journey as one of resilience, showcasing her strength and grace in the face of challenges. “Now, she is closer than ever to achieving her dream of higher education, and we are reaching out to invite support from those who feel moved to be part of her journey,” they stated.
Hailey Contreras stands as a testament to determination and ambition, a young woman who has embraced educational opportunities and channels her experiences into a drive for personal and professional success. Her academic accomplishments are a clear testament to her hard work, and her future looks bright as she takes the next steps at UC Berkeley. As she prepares to embark on this new chapter of her life, many will undoubtedly be watching with interest as she continues to realise her dreams.
