Cedar Point, a popular amusement park in Ohio, has taken decisive action by imposing a permanent ban on content creator Allen Ferrell following an incident in which he filmed himself consuming chicken nuggets on one of the park’s roller coasters. This event has drawn considerable public attention and raised questions about safety in amusement parks.

On 19 May, Ferrell shared a video on his Instagram account in which he could be seen eating a 10-piece box of chicken nuggets while atop the Millennium Force roller coaster. This activity breached the park’s established safety guidelines, which prohibit any “loose items”—including food—on most rides. The Millennium Force, known for its exhilarating drops and speeds, stands at 310 feet and can reach up to 93 miles per hour, making such behaviour particularly dangerous.

In a statement to PEOPLE, a spokesperson for Cedar Point articulated the park’s commitment to maintaining safety standards. They stressed the importance of adhering to the Code of Conduct and noted, “Safety is a cornerstone of our business and we have zero tolerance for inappropriate and unsafe behaviour.” The spokesperson further explained that items like food can pose choking hazards, endangering not only the individual but also other guests.

Ferrell’s response to his lifetime ban came shortly after news of the incident spread. He expressed understanding for Cedar Point’s safety protocols, stating, “I understand Cedar Point’s stance on safety and I respect it. The video was meant to be a ridiculous comedy bit, not encouragement for people to break rules.” He added that he had not anticipated the video would generate national headlines and attract such controversy.
The timing of Ferrell’s ban coincided with a separate issue concerning safety at Cedar Point that had recently emerged among park-goers. Following reports that some seatbelts on rides were shorter than in previous seasons, guests took to social media to voice their concerns about their fit. In response to these complaints, a company spokesperson confirmed the issue on social platform X. They indicated that a manufacturer had supplied seatbelts that did not meet the required specifications and assured guests that replacements were forthcoming in the weeks ahead.
The manufacturer involved, Intamin, provides the safety equipment for Cedar Point’s rides. The spokesperson explained that the shorter belts could affect guest safety and acknowledged the need for rectification. Social media users expressed relief at the transparency from the park, with one user thanking Cedar Point for addressing the concerns, particularly in light of the scepticism some individuals had regarding the fit of the seatbelts.
While amusement parks are generally considered safe environments, incidents such as Ferrell’s stunt and the seatbelt issue highlight the necessity of rigorous safety measures and adherence to park regulations. Parks like Cedar Point strive to provide thrilling experiences while also ensuring that safety remains paramount.
As the situation unfolds, the consequences of Ferrell’s actions serve as a reminder of the responsibilities that come with content creation, particularly when it involves potentially perilous scenarios. With amusement parks increasingly in the public eye, the balance between entertainment and safety will continue to be a focal point for both operators and guests alike.
Looking forward, Cedar Point and other amusement parks will undoubtedly maintain their focus on strict safety regulations to prevent future incidents. The recent events have emphasised the importance of following park rules and the need for accountability from both park operators and visitors.
