In a surprising turn of events, model Paulina Porizkova and her fiancé, television writer Jeff Greenstein, find themselves without a home just days before their wedding in Italy. The couple must vacate Porizkova’s Manhattan apartment after their landlord declined to renew the lease, leaving them in a precarious living situation at a time when they should be celebrating their impending nuptials.

During an episode of their podcast, *Twenty Good Summers*, the couple discussed the unexpected developments. Porizkova, 61, expressed her frustration: “We’re kind of getting evicted because my landlord, no matter how great a tenant I was for six years, he didn’t really want to give us an extension on the lease — even though I begged and pleaded. And so we have to move out of here four days before we get married in Italy.”

The emotional weight of this situation was palpable, as Porizkova noted the importance of the apartment to her life. “It’s been the first place, since I was 18 years old that was mine,” she underscored, highlighting her journey of self-discovery and independence in this home. Greenstein, 62, reflected on the significance of the apartment, which marked the first time Porizkova lived alone, enabling her to cultivate her personal space without compromise.
Despite the setbacks, the couple acknowledges their circumstances could be worse. “We’re very privileged souls,” Porizkova stated, pointing out that they have alternative living options. They could temporarily stay at her country house, which she co-owns with her two sons, or Greenstein’s house in Los Angeles, which is currently on the market. “For the time being, we can go there,” she added, though she expressed her reluctance about the country house, recalling the isolation she felt during the pandemic.
Greenstein summed up their situation, noting, “This is not how we would have drawn the play; getting kicked out of this apartment four days before the wedding and coming back to nothing in New York is not what we planned.” Their remarks reveal a blend of hope and humour amid the uncertainty.
As they search for a new apartment in Manhattan, the couple has encountered obstacles. “We have found places that we got really excited about and then, for a variety of reasons, it didn’t work out,” Porizkova remarked, emphasising the emotional rollercoaster of house hunting. Greenstein remained optimistic, jokingly suggesting that this “has been forced upon us” but expressing confidence that a suitable solution would eventually present itself.
The couple took to social media to discuss their living situation and the themes of moving and cohabitation on a recent podcast episode. They wrote, “Friends, we’re getting kicked out of our apartment four days before our wedding — thanks, Unsympathetic Landlord! — which, along with some relevant emails from our faithful fanbase, spurred us to do an episode about moving: when to move in together, how to harmonise lives and tastes, and all the emotions such transitions unleash. Pack a box and join the fun!”
Porizkova, who was previously married to Ric Ocasek, frontman of the band The Cars, reflected on her journey to love after their split in 2018. Greenstein proposed in July 2025, and the couple went public with their relationship in May 2023. Porizkova has openly discussed her personal growth over recent years, indicating her commitment to overcoming past insecurities.
“Meeting someone special and falling in love wasn’t with a wave of a magical wand. It was the result of really hard work,” she shared, acknowledging the challenges she faced and the self-discovery involved. “I’ve spent the last three years being single and getting over the belief I was not worthy of love.”
As their wedding day approaches, the couple seems determined to bring a sense of normalcy to their lives. Their journey encompasses both the excitement of a new relationship and the complexity of navigating significant life changes. Porizkova and Greenstein’s flexibility and positive outlook may indeed serve as an inspiration for others facing unexpected challenges during pivotal moments.
