Paul Rudd, the beloved actor known for his charismatic roles, recently reflected on a memorable night he spent with his wife, Julie Yaeger, during her pregnancy. This spontaneous adventure took them to Atlantic City, New Jersey, where a series of unexpected events turned an ordinary outing into an unforgettable experience.

In a recent appearance on Jake Shane’s podcast, Therapus, Rudd shared that the idea for the trip emerged while the couple was relaxing at home. Living in the West Village at that time, they were engrossed in an episode of *The Sopranos*. In a moment of spontaneity, Rudd suggested, “Do you want to go to Atlantic City?” to which Yaeger eagerly replied, “Yeah.” This simple agreement set the stage for a wonderful evening.

Without any arrangements in place, Rudd and Yaeger made their way to a nearby dollar rental agency for a vehicle and hit the road to Atlantic City. Upon arrival, they approached a hotel seeking a room, only to find that the place was fully booked. Surprisingly, the staff offered them a luxurious suite instead, an unexpected upgrade that Rudd described as “incredible”.
Following this stroke of luck, Rudd decided to try his hand at video poker in the casino. As fate would have it, while he was immersed in the game, an employee invited him and Yaeger to a concert by the iconic band Boston, which was set to commence shortly. “My wife comes down. I go, ‘Boston’s playing in ten minutes,’ and the guy just goes ‘Here,’ and gave us tickets—house seats,” Rudd recounted with enthusiasm.
Despite Yaeger being eight months pregnant at the time, the couple attended the concert and thoroughly enjoyed the performance. The evening took an even better turn when Rudd returned to the poker machine after the concert, placed a modest £20 bet, and hit a royal flush, winning several thousand pounds in the process. Rudd described the night as a perfect sequence of events that “just kept getting better and better.”
As host Jake Shane reacted to the story, he initially expected a more conventional revelry, but Rudd noted with humour that the highlight of the evening was not a wild party scene, but rather the intimate experience of watching Boston perform live with his pregnant wife. He quipped, “No. Seeing Boston with my eight-month pregnant wife,” drawing laughter from the audience.
Paul Rudd and Julie Yaeger have enjoyed a long-standing marriage since 2003. They are parents to a son, Jack, born in 2006, and a daughter, Darby, who arrived in 2010. The couple’s relationship began shortly after Rudd’s emergence as a rising star following his role in the 1995 romantic comedy *Clueless*.
In a previous interview, Rudd reflected on their initial encounter, noting how Yaeger impressed him with her maturity and perspective on life. He expressed admiration for her resilience, stating, “I was really taken with who she was and how she had overcome and was in the process of overcoming adversities in her life.” This intrinsic quality has been a foundation for their enduring partnership.
Julie Yaeger, who has also made a name for herself in the entertainment industry, is credited as a publicist for several films, including *Niagara, Niagara* (1997) and *Mr. Jealousy* (1997). Additionally, she authored the screenplay for the comedy *Fun Mom Dinner* released in 2017. Currently, she is producing *Rain Reign*, a film that stars Rudd, slated to premiere at the Tribeca Festival.
As for Rudd’s latest project, *Power Ballad*, it is set to hit theatres on May 29. With a blend of talent, success, and a touch of spontaneity, Rudd and Yaeger reflect the joy found in life’s simple, unplanned moments. Their story not only sheds light on their personal experiences but also serves as a reminder of how beautiful memories can be created when we dare to embrace spontaneity.
