A family in California is grappling with the disappearance of their pet cat, Junie, following a troubling incident captured on their doorbell camera. The footage allegedly shows an Amazon delivery driver picking up the cat shortly after delivering a package outside their Bakersfield home.

Brenda Wilson, the owner of the cat, expressed her shock and disbelief regarding the incident. “I’m just shocked that anybody would have the nerve to do that,” Wilson stated in an interview with KGET. The footage, which Wilson later shared on Facebook, shows the delivery driver approaching the property, delivering a parcel, and then reportedly taking the cat with him.

Junie, known for her calm demeanour, is part of the Wilson family, who have owned her since 2022. Wilson described the moments captured on camera, saying the driver made noises to attract the cat’s attention. “As he got closer, she meowed at him as if to say ‘stranger danger.’ I kind of wish she fought back, but that’s just not really in her nature,” Wilson lamented.
Following the disappearance of Junie, Wilson filed a police report, prompting the Kern County Sheriff’s Office to confirm that the incident is being treated as a case of ‘cat theft.’ Authorities are currently investigating the matter in an attempt to locate the missing pet.
In light of the incident, Wilson has been vocal about her desire for Junie’s safe return. She mentioned that the cat is capable of finding her way home and could easily return if dropped near the family’s property. “They could just drop her off in the driveway,” she explained. “She knows what to do. She’ll come straight to the garage, get inside the house, and do what she has to do.”
Wilson further clarified that she has documentation proving Junie’s ownership, including photographs of the cat with her kittens, which she shared with local news outlets. This evidence is intended to substantiate her claim to the pet amidst the ongoing investigation.
An Amazon spokesperson responded to the incident, explaining that the driver involved is not a direct employee of Amazon but rather works for a Delivery Service Partner—typically small businesses contracted to deliver packages. “We’re looking into it and working with law enforcement as they investigate,” the spokesperson added.
The unusual nature of the incident has attracted attention on social media, as many users expressed their disbelief at the actions of the delivery driver. Comments on Wilson’s posts reflected a mix of sympathy and outrage, with community members sharing their own experiences concerning pet safety and the importance of vigilance when it comes to the welfare of animals.
As the investigation unfolds, the Wilson family holds onto hope for Junie’s safe return, while also sparking a wider dialogue regarding the responsibilities of delivery personnel when it comes to pets. The case has raised concerns about the potential for similar incidents and the need for heightened awareness surrounding animal safety in residential areas.
In these times of heightened pet ownership and engagement, the situation serves as a cautionary tale for families everywhere. As communities come together in support of the Wilsons, the focus remains on finding Junie and preventing such incidents from occurring in the future.
