The Lyndhurst Police Department issued an alert regarding Hooper, who gained a significant following on social media for his self-help and motivational videos, amassing over 23,000 followers on TikTok. The last confirmed sighting of him was at Penn Station in Manhattan on Thursday, May 21.

Jim and Marilyn Hooper, Bill’s parents, shared their concerns in a video posted by the police on their social media platforms. During the update, a police officer confirmed that there is currently no evidence to suggest foul play in the case. Nevertheless, the circumstances surrounding Hooper’s disappearance remain troubling for his family and friends, who have described him as feeling particularly vulnerable in recent months.
The parents indicated that their son was dealing with personal challenges that intensified during a difficult period after injuring his leg. This injury prevented him from maintaining his job at a wine store in Manhattan, leading to his move back to his childhood home in January. According to reports, the pressures from his growing online presence had also contributed to his mental state, prompting him to pause his TikTok content creation in March.
Bill Hooper had been known for his candid discussions about life’s challenges. His most recent video, shared on March 18, revealed the emotional strain he felt following his injury and the importance of health. “I’ve been taking my health for granted, something that you shouldn’t do. Do not take your health for granted,” he stated, underscoring the value of overall wellbeing in his life.
His parents have noted that the attention he garnered online may have overwhelmed him, as they believe the modern pressures of social media have contributed to his anxiety. Jim Hooper commented on their son’s experience, saying, “I think he was overwhelmed by modern-day use of cellphones and with blowing up on TikTok.”
The family is urging anyone who may have seen Bill or has information regarding his whereabouts to come forward. They have specifically requested that tips be directed to the Lyndhurst Police Department at 201-939-2900. Alternatively, information can also be submitted via email at tips@lyndhurstnjpolice.gov.
As the search for Hooper continues, community members are rallying to support his family during this distressing time, which underscores the profound impact of mental health challenges, particularly among young people navigating the pressures of social media. Reports have highlighted an increasing need for awareness and dialogue surrounding mental health, especially in relation to online platforms that can amplify personal struggles.
The local police are committed to seeking answers and bringing closure to the Hooper family during this uncertain period. With the investigation ongoing, friends, family, and followers on TikTok are hopeful for a safe return as they rally together to spread the word about his disappearance.
