Reality television personality Olivia Plath has opened up about her personal experiences regarding reproductive healthcare, revealing that she has undergone two abortions using the drug mifepristone. This revelation comes amid ongoing discussions surrounding access to this medication across the United States.

In a recent video shared on her Instagram, the 28-year-old star of *Welcome to Plathville* spoke candidly about her decisions, emphasising the importance of women having the right to make autonomous choices regarding their bodies. “This is probably also a good time to mention something that I’ve not talked about a lot publicly,” Plath stated. “I’ve actually had two abortions, and for each of those I took mifepristone.”
Mifepristone is a medication licensed for use in combination with misoprostol to terminate early pregnancies, a process highly relevant in today’s discussions surrounding reproductive rights. Plath expressed her gratitude for being able to make these choices, particularly in light of the limitations that past generations of women faced.
Reflecting on her own mother’s experience, Plath noted the contrasting circumstances women from different eras have encountered. “My mom didn’t have the support I have to decide whether or not she wanted to be a parent,” she said. “She was from a different generation and lived in a pretty religious, controlling world.” Olivia shared that she was aware from a young age that her mother had more children than she had wished for or felt capable of caring for.
The impact of her mother’s experiences did not go unnoticed by Plath. “I’m really thankful for therapy now, and I always told myself I was never going to repeat that life. I’m so thankful that I had the options that she didn’t,” she reflected. She reinforced her views by stating, “Every woman deserves that,” highlighting the importance of choice in family planning.
Plath also articulated the emotional aspects of her choices. “Having an abortion is a decision I’ve never regretted, truly,” she remarked. She conveyed her confidence in her decisions, stating, “I knew I was not ready to be a parent. I never should have kids with that person. Every woman deserves that support and that autonomy over her own body.”
In addition to sharing her personal story, Olivia Plath encouraged her followers to take action by attending the “My Body My Festival,” a music event in Washington, D.C., scheduled for May 28. Proceeds from the festival will be donated to the DC Abortion Fund, an organisation that aids individuals seeking reproductive healthcare.
The issue of mifepristone access is particularly pressing, following a federal appeals court ruling on May 1 that effectively curtailed telehealth access to the drug. Subsequent action from the Supreme Court delayed this ruling until mid-May, when it was ultimately blocked, reflecting the contentious legal landscape surrounding reproductive rights in the United States.
Plath’s advocacy comes on the heels of a significant personal transition; she finalised her divorce from Ethan Plath in February. Their relationship, which was often scrutinised in the reality series, grappled with various challenges, including differing views on communication, politics, religion, and child-rearing.
Furthermore, Plath recently announced her decision to step away from the reality television show, stating in September 2025 that she had “worked hard to get out of my contract.” In her statement, she detailed her desire to distance herself from negativity and to report harmful behaviour that she encountered on set. “It sickens me to see violence, hatred, and dysfunction presented as entertainment,” she opined at the time.
As Olivia Plath continues to share her journey and advocate for women’s rights, her story adds a personal touch to the broader discourse on reproductive health, autonomy, and the ongoing battles faced by women in accessing necessary care. Her commitment to raising awareness about these issues highlights the significant strides needed in ensuring that every woman can exercise control over her own body and choices.
