The Pussycat Dolls are set to make an exhilarating return as they perform alongside the iconic Busta Rhymes at this year’s American Music Awards (AMAs) on May 25, 2026. Coming two decades after their initial performance on the same stage, lead singer Nicole Scherzinger expressed her excitement about this full-circle moment, labelling it as “incredible” and emblematic of the passage of time since their debut.

Scherzinger, along with fellow members Ashley Roberts and Kimberly Wyatt, announced the group’s reunion earlier in the year and celebrated the launch of their new single titled “Club Song” in March. “It’s crazy to think it’s been 20 years since our first performance in 2006,” she reflected. “Busta is a legend. We love him, and it’s always an honour to share the stage with him, especially after recently performing together overseas.”
The performance is anticipated to mark a significant moment of empowerment and celebration for the trio. Scherzinger stated, “To be with my girls in this new iteration and represent the women we are today adds to the honour. We hope to be a source of hope and joy during these times when we need it most.”
The Pussycat Dolls had attempted a reunion in 2019 but had to cancel their planned tour due to the COVID-19 pandemic. During that time, Scherzinger pursued various solo projects, including her acclaimed role as Norma Desmond in both the Broadway and West End productions of “Sunset Blvd.” This role earned her a Tony Award and an Olivier Award, highlighting her talent and range as a performer.
Reflecting on her time portraying the famous character, Scherzinger shared, “It was crucial for me to ensure that Norma was portrayed as a victor rather than a victim. Connecting with the audience was key; they need to feel they resonate with her journey.”
Further expanding her artistic repertoire, Scherzinger has also starred in a new PBS concert special titled “Great Performances: An Evening with Nicole Scherzinger.” This special, filmed during her performance at London’s Royal Albert Hall in October 2025, features a combination of Broadway standards and notable Pussycat Dolls hits such as “Stickwitu.”
In a recent interview, Scherzinger spoke about her desire to curate a unique experience for her audiences. She recalled her initial solo performances at New York’s The Django, where she funded the show herself, driven by her passion for storytelling through music. Her performances in both London and Los Angeles also aimed to defy expectations, with Scherzinger making a statement from the very beginning by opening her shows with the triumphant anthem “Don’t Rain on My Parade.”
After the conclusion of her run in “Sunset Blvd.,” Scherzinger felt re-energised and motivated to contact her fellow bandmates. “I really do miss this stage as well. It felt like the perfect time to reconnect with the girls,” she remarked.
Fans can look forward to the American Music Awards airing on CBS and Paramount+ at 8 p.m. ET on May 25, as well as the PBS special “Great Performances: An Evening with Nicole Scherzinger,” which is currently available for viewing. The anticipation around these upcoming events showcases the enduring legacy and excitement that the Pussycat Dolls continue to evoke in the music industry.
