The recent episode of the CBS drama “Marshals” has stirred a wave of emotions among the cast and crew, particularly following the character Garrett’s death. Portrayed by country singer Riley Green, Garrett’s journey was tragically cut short after he met his end in a barn fire during the show, following an engaging five-episode storyline. Ash Santos, who plays his love interest Andrea, opened up about the aftermath of this pivotal moment in the show during an interview with PEOPLE.

Riley Green, making his debut in acting with “Marshals,” quickly endeared himself to the cast and crew. His character, a former Navy SEAL who comes to Montana, provided a unique dynamic within the group, notably in his romantic involvement with Santos’s character. While his time on the series was brief, his impact was profound, with both Santos and the crew forming strong bonds with the singer-turned-actor.

Santos revealed that Green had expressed a wish to remain part of the series longer than his contracted episodes allowed. “He joked, he was like, ‘Damn, I was really hoping I’d stick around longer,'” she said. Despite his busy schedule packed with concert tours, Green’s keen interest in expanding his role showcased his dedication to the character.
The departure of Green’s character elicited significant emotional responses from the production team. Santos highlighted that the crew, especially those in hair and makeup, were particularly affected by the news. “We had people on our crew who were so upset with [showrunner] Spencer Hudnut] for weeks when they got that episode,” she said, indicating just how deeply Green connected with those around him.
Santos expressed that Green made a seamless transition from music to acting, attributing this ease to his natural artistic ability. She remarked, “When you’re an artist, you are so in tune in that way creatively that it makes it easy to pivot into something else. And then when you’re a singer, you’re telling stories all the time with your songs.” According to Santos, Green’s performance displayed his innate talent, remarking that he was “just so fun” to work with.
Beyond his professional skills, Santos characterised Green as a genuinely delightful person. She shared a particularly touching moment that occurred on his last day on set. While rushing to a show after wrapping, Green took the time to arrange for flowers to be sent to the hair-and-makeup team as a gesture of gratitude. Santos expressed, “He’s just a really, really wonderful person with a great team around him.”
The season one finale of “Marshals” is set to air on Sunday, 24th May at 8 p.m. ET on CBS. As the episode approaches, viewers continue to reflect on Garrett’s character and the emotional weight of his storyline. The connections made during filming, particularly through Riley Green’s contribution, are sure to resonate long after the credits roll on the last episode.
Santos and her colleagues on “Marshals” are left to navigate the show’s ongoing narrative without Garrett, while fans of the series will undoubtedly feel the loss of a character who brought both charisma and warmth to the screen. As the first season concludes, anticipation will build for what lies ahead in the unfolding saga of the Marshals franchise.
