On May 21, Klee posted an emotionally charged video on Instagram, updating her followers about Simon’s health following his recent diagnosis of cancer. During the video, Klee opened up about her feelings when she shared that Simon, a mix of jindo, miniature pinscher, and Portuguese podengo, had been admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) after experiencing severe seizures. “I sat down feeling strong, but I immediately started crying,” she explained. Her distress was palpable as she detailed the heartbreaking journey they have recently faced together.
In her update, Klee explained that Simon had suffered four seizures in a single morning, raising concerns about their severity. “These are known as cluster seizures and are classified as a medical emergency,” she said. Following this alarming episode, the decision was made to bring Simon to the animal medical centre (AMC) for further treatment. Although he has previously been treated and sent home quickly, this time the medical team recognised the need for intensive care due to Simon’s deteriorating neurological state.
The situation with Simon took a turn last November when veterinary examinations revealed a mass on his liver. Initially believed to be a side effect of his anti-seizure medication, further investigation showed the tumour had grown significantly since then. “It is apparent that this tumour is malignant, and for this type of cancer, there is a high likelihood of it spreading to the brain,” Klee disclosed.
Despite the grim news, Klee’s love for Simon shines through in her dedication to ensuring that he maintains a good quality of life. She spoke candidly about her heartbreak at seeing him in such a diminished state, stating, “The way he has been recently is not at all who he really is.” Klee expressed her desire for Simon to enjoy a few months of happiness rather than prolonging his life in a compromised quality. Her approach emphasises compassion for her pet rather than simply extending his time with her.
In a bid to better understand Simon’s condition, further diagnostic tests were ordered, including a CT scan and an MRI. Klee was cautiously optimistic, revealing that these tests indicated that the cancer had not yet spread to Simon’s lungs or brain. However, the situation remains precarious, as the tumour is affecting Simon’s ability to metabolise medications properly, leading to his frequent seizures.
Klee’s heartfelt message resonated with her audience as she conveyed her commitment to keeping them informed. “I held off on sharing this news until I had a clearer picture of Simon’s prognosis,” she said, adding that Simon was still in ICU, and she hoped to have him home soon. Reflecting on her journey as a pet owner, Klee previously mentioned the unpredictability of Simon’s health.
