The eagerly anticipated attraction, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run, at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, is set to reopen on 22nd May with an exciting new storyline that introduces the popular characters, the Mandalorian and Grogu. This update comes as the attraction temporarily closes today, 21st May, to allow for the enhancements.
Since its debut alongside Galaxy’s Edge at both Disneyland and Disney World, Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run has offered guests the chance to pilot the iconic ship in a thrilling interactive smuggling mission. Visitors have the option to assume one of three roles — pilot, gunner, or engineer — with each person’s performance impacting the overall success of the mission. As the attraction prepares for its relaunch, the experience is being revitalised to captivate visitors once again.
Situated in the heart of the Black Spire Outpost, the queue of Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run draws guests in with a lifelike model of the beloved spacecraft. As they await entry, riders navigate through a detailed engine room and mechanic area hosted by Ohnaka Transport Solutions. Here, they encounter the character Hondo Ohnaka, voiced by an audio-animatronic, who provides a brief on their smuggling task.
The final run of the existing mission is scheduled for today, marking an end to its original storyline as preparations for the new mission get underway. Beginning tomorrow, passengers will once again climb into the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon, this time partnering with the enigmatic bounty hunter and his beloved companion, often referred to as “baby Yoda.”
“I have some bounties to catch, crew,” reveals the Mandalorian in a preview shared on Disney Parks’ social media recently. “We’re after two Imperial Officers and a pirate. Their transportation crates are key, and Hondo has directed us to Tatooine. Grogu and I will rendezvous with you there.” This teaser sets the stage for what’s to unfold in the updated adventure.
An exciting change to the ride is the introduction of destination control for riders, allowing them to shape their own adventures across the Star Wars universe. Players will have the opportunity to choose from destinations including the cloud city of Bespin, the vast city-planet of Coruscant, or even the remnants of the infamous Death Star near the moon of Endor. This addition aims to enhance the immersion of the experience significantly.
Moreover, a noteworthy alteration is introduced in the engineer role, historically regarded as the least engaging position. For the first time, engineers will be able to interact with Grogu during the ride, adding a unique element that enriches their involvement in the mission.
