Rapper Big Sean has opened up about the importance of mental health during a recent event for Mindful Nation held at Live Nation’s Beverly Hills headquarters on May 20, 2026. The Grammy-nominated artist was in conversation with Maverick Carter, the CEO of SpringHill, for an initiative centred around Mental Health Awareness Month, where he discussed his personal journey and the power of uplifting others.

During the event, Big Sean, whose real name is Sean Anderson, reflected on a poignant moment from a surprise performance at Coachella, where he shared the stage with Justin Bieber. The two have maintained a friendship since 2011 and have collaborated on various projects. At Coachella, Sean delivered an impromptu heartfelt speech to Bieber, applauding his resilience in the face of public scrutiny.
In his remarks, Big Sean pointed out that Justin has “given his whole life to music” and has faced many challenges as a public figure. He described Bieber as someone who, despite imperfections and public trials, continues to grow. Sean captured the moment perfectly when he told the audience, “God has his hands on you,” words that resonated with many and caused a viral sensation.
Reflecting on the Coachella experience, Sean admitted, “I didn’t know that I was gonna say what I said on stage. I was just inspired.” He elaborated on his preparation rituals before performances, stating that he often prays and engages in morning meditation to ensure he is grounded and open to positive influences. “I always try and keep myself open to the word of God or the angels around me,” he said.
Interestingly, Big Sean mentioned that he did not recall much of what he had said during the emotional speech until others brought it to his attention afterward. “When I got offstage and people were like, ‘What you said was so …’ I’m like, ‘Damn, what did I say?'” he recounted. The conversation was well received, with both Justin and his wife, Hailey, expressing their appreciation days later. Sean conveyed that Justin said to him, “You drop big bars, man,” referring to the weight of his words.
The Mindful Nation event also featured a book signing for Sean’s latest release, *Go Higher: Five Practices for Purpose, Success, and Inner Peace*, which has gained significant popularity. The book, which includes a foreword from motivational speaker Jay Shetty, encapsulates Sean’s philosophies on achieving success and inner peace through various practices, including journaling and meditation.
While discussing his wellness routine during the event, Big Sean admitted to enjoying a range of practices but joked about one risk he won’t be taking again: skydiving. “I don’t go skydiving,” he said with a laugh. “I did, but it was a little much. When I was in the air, I’m like, I don’t need to do this again.”
As he prepares for the release of his new album, Sean hinted at the possibility of writing a second book. He expressed his joy at the reception of his first book, stating, “I’m glad there are some people who are receptive to it. It’s a passion of mine; it’s a purpose of mine.”
Through his journey as an artist and author, Big Sean continues to inspire others by sharing his experiences, especially in the realm of mental health. His commitment to lifting up those around him is a testament to his belief in the power of positivity in overcoming life’s challenges. With his focus on mindfulness and personal growth, Sean reinforces the significance of mental well-being in today’s fast-paced world.
