Disney World is set to unveil a refreshed version of the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, now themed around the beloved Muppets, with an official opening date scheduled for May 26. The revamped attraction promises an immersive experience with modern animatronics and a variety of festive elements that celebrate one of the most iconic franchises in family entertainment.

Among the highlights of the new ride is the return of the Muppet Mobile Lab, which has been absent from the parks since its last appearance at EPCOT in 2016. The Mobile Lab, designed to resemble a rocket ship, will be stationed in the G-Force Records building, giving guests a taste of the innovative Muppet technology that fans adore.
The Muppet Mobile Lab is not alone in drawing on nostalgia. Visitors will also discover a plethora of Easter eggs sprinkled throughout the attraction. This includes props from the recently retired Muppet*Vision 3D show, Kermit’s original banjo, and even the Interpol car featured in “Muppets Most Wanted.” Additionally, animatronic versions of the ever-hilarious Statler and Waldorf will greet guests as they embark on their roller coaster journey.
Upon entering the attraction, guests will be invited to enjoy a VIP tour at G-Force Records. Inside, a lively recording studio setting is brought to life with The Electric Mayhem band in full swing. The experience is further enhanced by an audio-animatronic representation of Scooter, who attempts to manage the band’s enthusiasm while ensuring they leave in time for their concert.
To create this authentic portrayal of Scooter, Walt Disney Imagineers employed cutting-edge motion-capture technology, allowing them to accurately replicate the character’s movements and expressions. This technology ensures a lifelike experience, as the animatronic interacts with the audience in real-time.
The excitement continues with each ride, as guests will be able to jam along to a selection of tracks from The Electric Mayhem’s diverse catalogue. Riders can look forward to hearing hits such as “Born to Be Wild,” featuring Camilla the Chicken, and covers of popular songs performed alongside celebrity guests such as Jennifer Hudson and Questlove. This new auditory experience stands in stark contrast to the ride’s previous version, which centred around the music of Aerosmith.
For context, the original Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, featuring Aerosmith, first opened its doors in 1999 and boasted an impressive sound system that played many of the band’s classic hits. Following its closure on March 1, 2023, Disney promptly set about transforming the ride, aiming to create a more family-friendly and broadly appealing experience by replacing the rock music theme with the whimsy of the Muppets.
Alongside the ride transformation, the exterior of the attraction has also been revitalised. Enhancements include a refreshed courtyard that contributes to a vibrant atmosphere, with the iconic guitar featured on-site being repainted in colourful, psychedelic hues reminiscent of the whimsical Muppet aesthetic.
Shopping and dining experiences have also been improved in conjunction with the ride’s reopening. “Rock Around the Shop” will feature a variety of Muppets-themed merchandise, while a new food stand called FØØD by Swedish Chef will offer themed treats. Guests can enjoy unique culinary delights inspired by The Electric Mayhem, such as Churro Drumsticks and Wocka Wocking Nachos.
