Sheinelle Jones, a co-host of NBC’s *Today* show, has revealed that she is struggling with severe shoulder pain, which she believes is a case of “frozen shoulder.” During a recent episode of *Today with Jenna & Sheinelle*, Jones explained how her condition has impacted her daily life and her work on the programme.

The 48-year-old broadcaster revealed her pain on May 19, 2026, disclosing that she had opted to miss the previous day’s show due to her discomfort. “I woke up yesterday with — so I’ve self-diagnosed myself, I don’t know if this is the official diagnosis — frozen shoulder,” she explained. Jones went on to describe her experience as “excruciating,” mentioning that she rarely takes pain medication and had to resort to Advil due to the intensity of her pain.
Jones’ co-host, Jenna Bush Hager, expressed concern over her colleague’s condition and asked whether she planned to heed her body’s signals to slow down. Jones acknowledged the importance of listening to her body, noting that stress and hormonal changes associated with perimenopause might contribute to her symptoms. “Some people say, women in their 40s, I’ve had this before, frozen shoulder or stress,” she added.
The condition known as frozen shoulder, or adhesive capsulitis, causes stiffness and pain in the shoulder joint, significantly limiting movement. As Jones detailed her struggles, she provided a humorous yet telling account of her wardrobe difficulties, revealing that a member of the wardrobe team had to assist her with getting dressed. “Putting this dress on today, Sara had to help me upstairs — our friend in the wardrobe department,” she remarked with a wince.
The conversation shifted to Jones’ recent performance on the *Today* show plaza, where she danced energetically with Swedish pop star Zara Larsson to her hit song “Lush Life.” Reflecting on this experience, Jones joked about whether her vigorous arm movements during the performance may have contributed to the onset of her pain. “Hold on, is that the arm? Did I whip my arm out of the socket?” she mused, recalling the viral moment wherein she executed an exuberant dance move.
Bush Hager light-heartedly added to the conversation, quipping, “I think she broke her shoe, and you broke your shoulder,” alluding to Larsson’s own mishap during the performance, where she had commented on breaking a heel mid-dance. This exchange showcased the camaraderie between the presenters, even amidst Jones’ discomfort.
Despite her humorous approach to the situation, Jones did mention the gravity of her health situation. “I don’t know what is happening. This is the third time in six years this has happened to me,” she said, alluding to previous episodes of similar pain. She shared that her last experience with frozen shoulder occurred just days before she was to dance with music icon Janet Jackson, resulting in her requiring a cortisone shot to manage the pain.
In addition to managing her health, Jones is balancing her career with her responsibilities as a single mother of three. Recently, she has also been preparing for a move, which involves cleaning out her current home. The added stress of relocating may further exacerbate her health issues, as she navigates the complexities of moving while contending with her physical pain.
As she continues to work through her challenges, Sheinelle Jones has captured the attention and support of viewers who admire her resilience. Her candid discussion about health struggles not only shines a light on the reality faced by many but also reinforces the importance of addressing personal health alongside professional commitments. As she continues her journey, fans remain hopeful for her swift recovery and health improvement.
