Joseph Duggar, a former star of the reality show *19 Kids and Counting*, was arrested on 18 March 2023 in Florida, facing serious allegations related to lewd behaviour involving a young girl. The incident has prompted Duggar to request the court to amend a no-contact order preventing him from communicating with his four children, a step that has garnered significant media attention.
As reported, Duggar, 31, is currently under a no-contact order that commenced on 31 March. This order was set in place following his arrest on charges connected to lewd and lascivious acts towards a minor under the age of 12. According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE, Duggar’s recent filing, submitted on 17 May, seeks to establish communication with his biological children, aged seven, six, five, and three.

Duggar’s request specifically notes that the alleged victim involved in the case is not one of his children, arguing that the existence of the no-contact order is causing undue hardship for his family. His four children—Garrett David, Addison Renee, Brooklyn Praise, and Justus Joseph—are affected by this legal constraint, alongside his two younger siblings who are also included in the order.
The charges against Duggar are particularly serious. According to the Bay County Sheriff’s Office, Duggar has been accused of lewd and lascivious molestation of a minor under 12 years old, as well as engaging in lewd and lascivious behaviour allegedly conducted by an adult. Reports suggest that Duggar allegedly confessed to the molestation during a conversation involving the child’s father and a local police detective, as detailed in an affidavit filed with the court.
In a separate but related incident, Duggar’s wife, Kendra Duggar, 27, has also encountered legal troubles. She was arrested in Arkansas and is facing charges unrelated to her husband’s allegations. Family representatives have described Kendra’s charges as “totally unrelated” to the serious felony charges being brought against Joseph in Florida.

Kendra, alongside Joseph, is facing four counts of endangering the welfare of a minor and four counts of false imprisonment in the second degree. These charges were confirmed by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. However, on 17 April, Kendra’s no-contact order was lifted, allowing her to reunite with her children for the first time since her arrest.
Both Joseph and Kendra appeared in court on 17 April, where they entered not guilty pleas pertaining to the Arkansas charges. The couple had initially been scheduled for a court appearance on 29 April, but their proceedings have been postponed. They are now expected to return to court on 10 August in Arkansas to continue with the legal process surrounding their respective charges.
This ongoing legal saga not only raises concerns regarding the welfare of the Duggar children but also highlights the implications of serious allegations in familial contexts. The family’s public narrative—a hallmark of their former television series—has now taken a drastically different turn, inviting scrutiny from both the public and legal institutions.
As developments unfold, the scrutiny on the Duggar family intensifies, with many awaiting the court’s decision regarding Joseph’s request to modify the no-contact order. This situation has generated significant media coverage, reflecting broader societal concerns about child safety and the responsibilities of those in positions of public interest. The legal outcomes for both Joseph and Kendra Duggar will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on their family’s future and the wellbeing of their children.
