Tragedy struck in Ontario, Canada, as the bodies of a 53-year-old father and his 7-year-old son were recovered from Lake Erie following a canoe outing on 11 May. Sgt. Ed Sanchuk of the OPP shared the heartbreaking news in a video announcement, noting that both individuals were discovered by a passing boater after the OPP and the Canadian Coast Guard initiated a search following reports of absent boaters near Townline Street in St. Williams, a rural area close to Long Point. Shortly before their recovery, emergency services had mobilised to find the overdue canoeists.
The OPP confirmed that the father and son were wearing life jackets at the time of the incident. “Both individuals were located deceased in the waters of Lake Erie after being reported overdue,” Sanchuk explained during his address.
