In an unfortunate incident that struck Madison, Indiana, Trinity United Methodist Church suffered a devastating fire and subsequent structural collapse on May 11. The blaze, which was reportedly ignited by a parked golf cart, led to a catastrophic failure of the church’s roof and some walls, as confirmed by the City of Madison Fire Department. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, but the fire’s impact extended to a neighbouring business, Love Betty Bridal.

The bridal shop, located adjacent to the church, faced significant damage as a result of the incident, losing an attached garage and a showroom that contained numerous sample wedding dresses. Despite the destruction, the Love Betty Bridal team expressed gratitude in the face of adversity, noting that an “incredible” act of community spirit helped salvage their valuable collection.
On Wednesday, May 13, the boutique shared via social media that thanks to numerous spontaneous volunteers, every single wedding dress was saved from the wreckage just before the building was engulfed. In a heartfelt message on Instagram and Facebook, the team reassured brides that their gowns were in a secure location and undergoing a smoke removal process with the help of ServPro, utilising ozone treatment.
The wedding dresses were relocated to First Baptist Church, underscoring a remarkable community effort to ensure that brides could still look forward to their special day, despite the distressing circumstances. “Those gowns were the very first things we rescued because this tragedy was never going to keep you from having your perfect day,” the team stated.
Cleanup efforts have already commenced in The Fountain Building, which houses Love Betty Bridal. The shop is committed to reopening as quickly as possible and plans to move its dresses to a nearby store, Betty Jeffries, located on Main Street in Madison.
In their social media communication, the Love Betty Bridal team extended their appreciation to everyone who has offered support during this challenging time. “Thank you to every person who has reached out, prayed for us, helped move dresses, or simply showed up when we needed it most,” they expressed. They also recognised the dedication of volunteer firefighters and first responders who worked tirelessly through the night to save Trinity United Methodist Church and to minimise damage to their own building.
