In a heartwarming turn of events, an American bulldog named Pezkoi has been reunited with his family more than two years after he mysteriously vanished from their Chicago home. The remarkable reunion took place on 6 May when Pezkoi was found and brought back to his owners, marking a joyous conclusion to a long and distressing search.

The incident began on 22 March 2024, when Pezkoi escaped from the family’s yard situated on the Northwest Side of Chicago. His disappearance left his family devastated, as they had formed a close bond with Pezkoi since their son Joel Saucedo brought him home at the tender age of 19. “It was truly heartbreaking. We lost a family member,” recalled Saucedo, while his mother, Yolanda Chilson, lamented their loss by expressing how much Pezkoi meant to them as their beloved pet.
In their quest to reunite with the missing dog, the Chilson family took proactive steps by distributing flyers in local shops and sharing Pezkoi’s details on websites dedicated to lost pets, such as LostDogsIL. Despite their unwavering efforts and hope, the family faced a struggle that would span over two years.
To their utter surprise, the family received a call last week that Pezkoi had been discovered in Kankakee County, in the village of Bourbonnais. Excitement and anticipation surged as they rushed to Kankakee Animal Control to bring their cherished pet back home. “It was everything we had dreamed of,” wrote Herb Chilson, the dog’s owner, on their GoFundMe page.
Upon reuniting with Pezkoi, both Herb and his family noticed he appeared to be in poor condition. “It was evident that Pezkoi had endured considerable hardships during his time away,” Herb said. A subsequent visit to the veterinarian revealed that Pezkoi’s teeth were significantly damaged. The deterioration was believed to either be the result of his attempts to chew his way out of a confined space or possible injuries he sustained during his disappearance.
As Pezkoi now requires extensive dental treatment, the family has initiated a GoFundMe campaign to help cover the medical costs. As of 13 May, they had managed to raise £710 towards their goal of £1,800, reflecting the community’s support and goodwill during their difficult times.
Jeanette Garlow, co-director of LostDogsIL, highlighted that Pezkoi’s microchip played a crucial role in his return. “It is imperative for pet owners to ensure that their microchip information is always current. You can never predict where your dog might end up if they wander away,” she advised.
For the Saucedo family, the reunion has undoubtedly been an emotional rollercoaster. “I felt like a little kid in a candy store. I was the happiest person alive. It felt like a miracle,” Saucedo expressed joyously upon being reunited with Pezkoi. Since their reconnection, he has reported feeling a renewed sense of peace, waking up each day reassured that his beloved companion is still by his side.
