The case came to light when the elderly woman’s daughter reported the rings missing. She discovered the jewellery, which included a sapphire ring, a wedding band, and an engagement ring, had vanished from her mother’s hand on December 28, 2025. The woman, who resides in Castle Hills, Texas, relies on her daughter for support and oversight.

Following the report of the missing rings, the Castle Hills Police Department (CHPD) received an anonymous tip suggesting that McGee had been boasting about pawning jewellery at a nearby shop. The caller revealed that McGee allegedly used her own identification during the transaction, a piece of information that prompted authorities to investigate further.
Detectives reviewed records from the local pawn shops and discovered a trail linking McGee to the sale of one of the stolen rings at Cash America Pawn Shop, located on Blanco Road in San Antonio. Documentation from the shop confirmed the transaction, and video surveillance provided further evidence, showing McGee entering the shop and completing the sale.
The daughter of the alleged victim, who holds power of attorney for her mother, later identified the pawned ring as belonging to her mother. This identification proved crucial to the investigation and led to McGee’s arrest.
On May 10, McGee was officially charged with theft of property, with the value of the stolen items estimated between £2,500 and £30,000. The case has drawn attention not only due to the age of the victim but also because of the breach of trust involved in the alleged crime.
As the investigation unfolded, local news outlet KENS 5 reported on the growing concerns surrounding the safety of vulnerable residents in senior care facilities. The incident has sparked discussions about the protocols in place to protect the elderly from potential thefts and exploitation.
While details regarding McGee’s employment status at the time of the incident remain unclear, the case highlights significant issues related to elder care and the importance of safeguarding those who may be unable to defend themselves or report wrongdoing. As authorities continue to gather information, the local community watches closely to see how the legal proceedings will evolve in this troubling case.
Both the Castle Hills Police Department and local media outlets have urged anyone with further information to come forward, underscoring the importance of community vigilance in protecting vulnerable individuals.
