A commemorative wedding day took an unexpected twist for Zane Zotto when a simple seating arrangement mix-up with his mother transformed into a light-hearted and memorable moment. The 28-year-old groom was at Mount Palomar Winery in Temecula, California, on January 9 when he mistakenly forgot which side his mother, Debra Zotto, should have taken her seat.

The amusing incident was captured on video by wedding content creators The Vow Girls and subsequently shared on TikTok, where it quickly attracted over 35,000 views. In the footage, Zane can be seen escorting Debra down the aisle, alternating between the left and right sides before finally realising his error. Amidst giggles from the guests, Zane quipped, “Which side? This side. Right? Yes. Yeah, yeah, yeah. No! Oh, I went to the wrong one. Oh, my God. Here you go.”

The atmosphere turned jovial as laughter erupted from the audience, with Debra affectionately telling her son, “I love you,” before they shared a heartfelt embrace. Following the light-hearted exchange, she took her seat, allowing the ceremony to proceed as planned.
In an interview with PEOPLE, Zane explained the pressure he felt leading up to the pivotal moment, admitting, “I was feeling a bit of pressure because it was something new and all eyes were on me.” A self-described introvert, Zane further acknowledged that he began to second-guess himself when he noticed his mother appearing uncertain about the seating arrangement.
The Zotto family was strategically placed behind the bride, Sydney Zotto, and her family, ensuring they could enjoy viewing the emotional expressions on each other’s faces rather than simply the backs of heads. Fortunately, Zane managed to rectify his mistake without any fuss, and guests were quick to embrace the humour of the situation.
Reflecting on the chaos, Zane remarked, “We just kind of laughed it off and knew it would be a funny moment that would make our wedding even more memorable, which it did.” He added that the incident injected a sense of levity into an otherwise formal event, proving to be a source of amusement for those present.
Debra, aged 54, recalled that the wedding party had practised the processional the day before, and the confusion seemingly arose when she thought she noticed family members swapping sides. “My brain was a little like, ‘Did they change our seating and just forget to mention it to me?!'” she shared. However, both Zane and Debra felt that this little blunder made the ceremony feel more personal and intimate.
Debra described the moment as unifying, stating, “We were all laughing, and it felt like it just bonded the whole wedding group together in our little screw-up of, ‘Where is Mom supposed to be seated?'”
Despite the initial stress of the walk down the aisle, Debra found time to enjoy the moment with her son. She recounted an emotional exchange with Zane as they paused to take in the surroundings. “Zane looked over at me and asked, ‘You ready, Mom?’ I said, ‘Not yet, I want to take in every moment of this,'” she reflected.
With tears of joy, Debra expressed her pride in Zane, saying, “I love you, Zane, I’m so proud of you,” to which he replied with a smile, “I love you too, Mom. You ready?” The pair exchanged affirmations before moving forward with their special day.
Following the ceremony, both Zane and Debra expressed their delight that their small mishap resonated with many online. “Like, how awesome is that!” Debra exclaimed, emphasising the role of laughter as a form of joy during the occasion. Zane, equally surprised by the newfound attention, shared, “I think it is pretty cool! I never expected it to get this much attention. I am really glad that we have this moment captured and that other people are finding joy in it.”
Their wedding day, initially marked by formality, was ultimately enriched by a spontaneous moment of joy, demonstrating that sometimes it is the unintended memories that create the most cherished stories.
