Directed by Felix Barrett, known for his acclaimed work on *Sleep No More*, the new play features an original narrative crafted by Levi Holloway, who previously garnered attention with *Grey House*. Audiences may anticipate that the live production will encapsulate the essence of the films, which began with the original movie’s release in 2009, quickly becoming a cultural touchstone within the horror genre.

The story centres around two protagonists, James and Lou, who relocate from Chicago to London in an effort to flee their troubled past. However, they soon discover that the true source of terror may lie within the shadows of human experience rather than the locations they inhabit. This thematic twist aligns with the franchise’s exploration of psychological horror, blurring the lines between reality and the supernatural.
The *Paranormal Activity* films, known for revitalising found-footage horror, amassed nearly £200 million globally. The initial film was directed by Oren Peli, leading to six sequels, including *Paranormal Activity 2*, *Paranormal Activity 3*, and the more recent titles such as *Next of Kin*. Audiences have consistently praised the franchise for its atmospheric storytelling, utilising mundane settings—bedrooms and hallways—as the backdrop for chilling encounters.
Barrett expressed his enthusiasm about bringing *Paranormal Activity* to Broadway, highlighting the unique dynamic of engaging with New York audiences. “New York is my home away from home,” he stated. “I’ve always been fascinated by how theatre-goers interact with productions in this vibrant city. The enthusiastic response to *Paranormal Activity* during its tours across the U.S. has me eager to see how it will resonate with New Yorkers.”
Holloway echoed Barrett’s sentiments, describing this adaptation as “unlike anything else on the American stage right now.” He referred to the collaboration as a blend of horror, heart, and mischief, presenting a fresh and immersive experience for theatre enthusiasts.
The creative team is composed of notable talents, including scenic and costume designer Fly Davis, illusion designer Chris Fisher, who previously won acclaim for his work on *Stranger Things: The First Shadow*, as well as lighting and sound designers Anna Watson and Gareth Fry, respectively. The visual elements will be enhanced by video and projections designer Luke Halls, ensuring that the haunting atmosphere is palpably felt by the audience.
Jason Blum, the CEO of Blumhouse Productions and an original producer of the *Paranormal Activity* films, is also part of the Broadway producing team. The production is being led by Melting Pot, in conjunction with arrangements from Paramount Pictures and Solana Films, bolstering its pedigree in the realm of theatrical adaptations.
Before making its Broadway debut, *Paranormal Activity* will be showcased at the Emerson Colonial Theatre in Boston from 11 to 30 July 2026. This pre-Broadway engagement aims to solidify the production before it arrives in New York, allowing the creative team to fine-tune the performance based on audience reactions.
Tickets for *Paranormal Activity: A New Story Live on Broadway* are currently available for purchase, generating excitement amongst horror fans and theatre-goers alike. With its innovative approach to a beloved franchise, this stage adaptation is poised to captivate audiences, encouraging them to question what really lurks in the darkness of their own homes.
