The Gaines family, who have resided in their charming farmhouse long before gaining fame, consider it their forever home. Over the years, they have made numerous alterations and extensions to the property to cater to their growing family of seven, including Joanna’s husband, Chip, and their five children: Emmie, 16, Ella, 19, Crew, 7, Duke, 17, and Drake, 21. The majority of the family remains at home, with the two eldest currently in college.

In her Instagram post, Gaines candidly expressed that she is attempting to manage the renovation amid the end of the school year for her children. “I’m trying to do this renovation in pieces. I am stubborn in that I refuse to move out,” she explained, emphasising the need for a stable home environment during the busy period of the academic calendar. “This is going to be a fun two weeks of trying to figure out how to end the school year well, but also work through mothers’ emotional challenges through renovation,” she added.
Among the notable improvements is a large new hutch that has already been placed, along with ambitious plans for a new warehouse window. In her video, Joanna proudly showcased the hutch filled with tableware, stating, “The guys moved this wall over. This beautiful hutch came in last week.” She elaborated on the painting work that lies ahead, sharing a glimpse of her vision for the kitchen’s aesthetic with a fresh coat of creamier white paint.
Joanna’s excitement over the installation of a stunning old warehouse window was palpable during her walkthrough. “This gorgeous old warehouse window went in, and then today, all of this goes away,” she said, gesturing towards the kitchen island and cabinetry, indicating a significant shift in the space. Viewers could also see workers diligently removing old tiles from the walls, highlighting the transformative nature of the project.
In her post, she remarked on the experience of living through such a renovation: “Living through the farm renovation is building character, but getting a front-row seat to it all coming together is my favourite part.” This sentiment resonates with many homeowners who find themselves juggling the chaos of renovations alongside daily life.
Previously, Gaines shared the challenges posed by the ongoing construction through a light-hearted video where she attempted to enjoy a breakfast taco amidst the disruptive sounds of hammering and drilling. “Breakfast with a side of sawdust. 😳🤗 #FarmReno,” she cheekily captioned the clip, giving followers a glimpse into her dynamic lifestyle.
This kitchen overhaul is just the latest chapter in Joanna’s ongoing journey of home transformation. The family’s Waco property has seen various enhancements, including a spacious new family room and a gathering place designed for family holidays. Additionally, Joanna converted a former nursery room used by her youngest son into a dream pantry, indicating her commitment to creating functional yet stylish spaces.
Aside from managing her Texas home, Joanna and Chip Gaines recently completed another venture beyond state lines. Their Colorado vacation home, transformed for a limited series of “Fixer Upper: Colorado Mountain House,” showcases the couple’s talent for renovation projects outside their familiar territory. This allows fans of the show to witness their creative evolution and the multifaceted nature of their design philosophy.
Joanna Gaines’s kitchen renovation is more than just a home update; it encapsulates the continuous development of her family’s living space while they adapt to the changes of life. As the hustle and bustle of family life intertwines with construction, Joanna’s journey reflects the resilience and creativity inherent in transforming a house into a true family home.
