While standing alongside Jimmy Fallon, host of The Tonight Show, Diesel remarked on the growing demand from fans for deeper narratives surrounding legacy characters from the Fast & Furious universe. He expressed, “For the last decade, we have realised that the fans have wanted more. They wanted us to expand the legacy characters, their stories. And for the last decade, the desire has been for us to enter the TV space.”
The details regarding the plot of the new series remain scarce, leaving fans intrigued about what may unfold. Diesel announced that the streaming service Peacock is set to “launch” several new shows deriving from the Fast & Furious universe. Insiders, however, revealed that currently only one series has been firmly established, while several others are still in various developmental stages at Universal Television.

The new series will see Diesel take on the role of executive producer, collaborating with a well-rounded production team, including Sam Vincent, Jeff Kirschenbaum, Chris Morgan, Neal Moritz, and Pavun Shetty. Mike Daniels and Wolfe Coleman are slated to serve as co-showrunners, both renowned for their work on other successful television projects.
This announcement marks an expansion of the Fast franchise, which is already familiar to audiences through its previous animated series, Fast & Furious Spy Racers. This series debuted on Netflix in 2019 and concluded in 2021. The film series itself has been a massive success, with the latest installment, Fast X, accumulating a staggering $704.8 million at the global box office following its release in May 2023.
As the franchise gears up for new stories, anticipation builds for the 11th installment, tentatively titled Fast Forever. Rumours suggest that this film may serve as a conclusive chapter for the franchise, with a planned release set for March 2028. Diesel has hinted at plans to bring the series back to its roots, focusing on the vibrant car culture and street racing that initially captivated audiences.
In a recent appearance at FuelFest in June 2025, Diesel spoke fondly of the franchise’s connection to fans and teased possible appearances of the late Paul Walker, who was integral to the series. He shared his vision for the future, emphasising the importance of returning to Los Angeles and reuniting his character, Dominic Toretto, with Walker’s character, Brian O’Conner.
Fellow actor Ludacris, who has been a part of the franchise since his debut as Tej Parker in the 2003 film 2 Fast 2 Furious, also expressed optimism for the future. In a conversation with PEOPLE, he alluded to the open-ended conclusion of the latest film, suggesting a strong possibility of returning to the franchise soon. “I feel like we are definitely going to come back at some point very soon to surprise everyone,” he stated, while reflecting on the franchise’s enduring legacy.
The Fast & Furious series, known for its high-octane action and stellar ensemble cast, continues to keep fans engrossed. With the promise of new narratives through the upcoming TV series and the impending release of Fast Forever, there is much for enthusiasts of the franchise to look forward to in the coming years.
As the series develops, anticipation will inevitably build, keeping the legacy of Fast & Furious alive as it transitions from the big screen to the realm of television. This new venture opens the door for further character exploration and storytelling, which Diesel and his team appear eager to deliver.
