As per a statement released by Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Officer-in-Charge Patrick Murray of the Paterson Police Department, officers arrived to find six individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. These victims were promptly transported to Saint Joseph’s University Medical Center for treatment. Tragically, a 43-year-old man and a 29-year-old man, both hailing from Paterson, were later pronounced dead.

The identities of the victims have not yet been disclosed, and no arrests have been made as police continue their investigation. Initial reports suggest that the event may have been a drive-by shooting, with multiple pieces of evidence, including shell casings, found at the scene, according to CBS New York.
Eyewitness accounts describe a chaotic scene, with graphic footage capturing moments of panic as bystanders frantically called for help. One person could be heard pleading anxiously for assistance for a victim, highlighting the urgency and distress in the wake of the gunfire.
Paterson Councilman Alex Mendez, whose office is located close to the shooting site, shared his experience of seeking cover amidst the sounds of gunfire. Mayor Andre Sayegh condemned the incident as a “senseless act of gun violence.” He acknowledged that while the city has seen a significant drop in shootings—down by 60% over the past two years—the occurrence of such an event remains unacceptable. “Any act of gun violence is one too many,” Sayegh remarked, reflecting the sentiment of many residents who are feeling increasingly anxious about public safety.
