Sorrentino, now aged 43, gained fame as a cast member of Jersey Shore when it first aired in 2009. Since then, he has engaged with his audience both on and off-screen, particularly through sharing his experiences related to addiction and recovery. Speaking candidly about his journey, he attributed much of his success in sobriety to the unwavering support of his wife, Lauren. “Thanks to this beautiful woman next to me who saved my life, I’m going on my 11th year of sobriety this year,” he explained during an exclusive interview with PEOPLE.

In addition to celebrating his personal achievements, Sorrentino is eager to use his experiences to support and guide others facing similar struggles. He revealed that he owns Archangel Centers, a chain of treatment facilities dedicated to helping those in recovery. “I love being on TV, but I love helping people more,” he emphasised, highlighting his passion for making a positive impact.

Mike and Lauren first crossed paths in college back in 2005. Although their romance faced challenges, particularly after Sorrentino’s rise to stardom with Jersey Shore, the couple managed to rekindle their relationship in 2013. They formally committed to each other in marriage in 2018. Reflecting on their partnership, Sorrentino previously mentioned that strong communication and a willingness to apologise are essential components of their successful marriage.
Sorrentino’s sobriety journey began in 2015 after enduring serious struggles with drug addiction. In his memoir, Reality Check: Making the Best of the Situation, he described feelings of hopelessness, managing his addiction through excessive alcohol consumption. He wrote, “I was stuck and feeling worse by the day.” This period of his life became a turning point, leading him down a path of recovery that has significantly transformed his outlook on life.
Looking back, Sorrentino expresses gratitude for how far he has come. He now shares three children with Lauren, including two daughters, Mia and Luna, and a son, Romeo. Just before welcoming Luna in 2023, he remarked on the dramatic changes in his life, acknowledging the contrast between his younger, wilder days and his current status as a devoted family man, proudly celebrating eight years of sobriety at that time.
Sorrentino’s story is not without its struggles; in 2019, he was sentenced to prison for tax evasion. However, he believes that overcoming such setbacks further amplifies the importance of his recovery story. “The comeback is truly greater than the setback,” he articulated, underscoring a message of resilience that he hopes to communicate to those struggling with similar issues.
In addition to his personal growth, Sorrentino has made considerable efforts to improve his physical health. As of November 2025, he successfully shed 30 pounds through a dedicated regimen of diet and exercise. Commenting on his transformation, he reflected on the evolution of ‘The Situation,’ noting, “I have the family and the story and the sobriety, and now I got the abs back.” This dedication to his well-being is a testament to the changes he has embraced as part of his recovery.
Sorrentino will join familiar faces from the original Jersey Shore cast in what has been announced as the final season of Jersey Shore: Family Vacation. His journey toward fitness and ongoing commitment to sobriety will be showcased as part of the series narrative. As MTV describes, “The Situation brings his abs out of retirement as he focuses on his fitness journey, celebrates a remarkable 10 years sober, and opens a rehab centre.”
For those who may find themselves struggling with substance abuse, help is accessible. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) offers resources and support through their helpline at 1-800-662-HELP. As the new season airs, Sorrentino’s story serves as a beacon of hope and a reminder of the possibility for recovery and renewal.
