Valerie Bertinelli, the accomplished actress and television personality, recently shared her wishes for her son, Wolfgang Van Halen, and his new wife, Andraia Allsop, to start a family. During an event for the Lifetime film *Love, Again*, Bertinelli spoke candidly about her hopes of becoming a grandmother as she navigates her son’s busy music career.
At 66, Bertinelli made it clear that while she isn’t pressuring the couple, they are well aware of her desire to have grandchildren. “No, still not nagging, but they know,” she remarked, referring to Wolfgang, 35, and Andraia. She playfully mentioned that Andraia often comments on the reality of Wolfgang’s hectic touring schedule, acknowledging that they are currently unable to settle down and start a family.
Wolfgang’s music career has seen a significant upswing, particularly following the release of his well-received third album. While this success is a source of pride, it has also contributed to delays in their plans for parenthood. “Drea is very cute. She says, ‘Well, he has to actually be home for a little while.’ And he’s not,” Bertinelli explained. She noted that the couple remains very connected, frequently using FaceTime to stay in touch and check on their beloved pets.

Bertinelli has a particularly fond view of her son’s character, expressing her belief that Wolfgang’s kindness and dedication to their cats indicate he will be a nurturing parent in the future. She reminisced about the joy of raising Wolfgang, whom she welcomed in 1991 with her late ex-husband, Eddie Van Halen. Although she and Eddie divorced in 2007, Bertinelli and Wolfgang maintain a close bond.
In a joint interview with Wolfgang in 2021, she stated, “Besides the fact that he is ridiculously talented, I’m most proud of his kindness and thoughtfulness.” Wolfgang chimed in, discussing the family’s shared love for humour and sarcasm, a sentiment that has shaped their close-knit relationship. He remarked on their daily rituals, which often include visiting his mother’s home to care for the family’s cats, further reinforcing their strong familial ties.

Following in his father’s footsteps, Wolfgang has carved out a successful music career, currently leading a band called Mammoth. The band garnered a Grammy nomination for Best Rock Song in 2022 with their hit song “Distance”. This success, however, has heightened his responsibilities and time commitments, complicating discussions about their future family plans.
Reflecting on his upbringing, Bertinelli highlighted the rich musical environment Wolfgang grew up in, stating that he was surrounded by instruments since infancy. She fondly remembered him showing fascination with music even as a young child, which foreshadowed his eventual career as a musician. This legacy, however, also came with expectations and uncertainty about whether he would continue in this path.
The couple’s journey together began when Wolfgang and Andraia met via Instagram. Their relationship blossomed over time, leading to a small wedding ceremony at their Los Angeles home in 2023. Wolfgang shared nostalgic memories of their early dates, describing a particularly enchanting night spent together under the stars in Malibu, which highlighted their deep connection.
Now, as newlyweds, Wolfgang and Andraia are adapting to married life, even joking they had a “homeymoon” instead of a traditional honeymoon due to his music commitments. Wolfgang expressed contentment with their new life together, balancing his work with shared moments at home. However, he acknowledged the complexities of considering children in the midst of his busy career.
When discussing the future, Wolfgang stated, “Honestly, I’ve got my hands full right now, for sure. But certainly, I think that… I would like to. But I’ve got to figure out my career and stuff first.” His focus remains on navigating his professional demands while contemplating his family aspirations.
As Valerie Bertinelli continues to hope for grandchildren, it remains to be seen how Wolfgang and Andraia will manage the multifaceted challenges of their career and personal lives. Nonetheless, the couple’s love and commitment to each other and their growing family of pets suggest they may be well-prepared for the next steps in their lives together.
