Identical twin sisters Polina and Mariya Giganova are set to celebrate a significant milestone as they prepare to graduate this month with matching accounting degrees from the Metropolitan State University of Denver. The 23-year-olds, who also work as real estate agents, view this achievement as part of a larger plan for their collective future.

Reflecting on their close-knit relationship, Polina shared, “I think the best thing is just having a built-in best friend.” This sentiment resonates deeply, especially since they often have difficulty imagining life apart from each other. “We can’t even imagine how one of us could live by ourselves,” she added with a laugh.
The journey of the Giganova twins began at the tender age of 12 when their family moved from Kazakhstan to the United States. They were accompanied by their parents and an older sister, who all played a crucial role in shaping their aspirations. Recognising the sacrifices made by their family, the twins committed themselves to pursuing their dreams together, albeit with a focus that diverges from the more traditional paths taken by many in their family, who have backgrounds in accounting.
Mariya explained their choice of career, saying, “We’re not meant for a nine-to-five, sitting at a cubicle all day long because, number one, we couldn’t do it together, and number two, we just enjoy meeting people.” Inspired by their mother, the twins have successfully navigated the real estate market for nearly four years, harnessing their educational experience to better assist their clients. They are even considering pursuing master’s degrees in taxation to further enhance their skills in the field.
“The primary goal is to help our family and honour their sacrifices,” Polina emphasised, illustrating the driving force behind their shared ambitions. This sense of duty to their family remains steadfast, with Polina noting, “We can’t fail because they took so many risks and left so much behind.”
When not engaged in studies or real estate ventures, the Giganova sisters indulge in various activities together. They enjoy reading, playing with their dog, and cherishing time spent with family. This summer, they are poised to enter another phase of their lives with enthusiasm, as they anticipate becoming aunts to twins, with their older sister expecting.
Their bond is so profound that the twins have even contemplated their future partnerships. Mariya proposed a unique vision for their marital aspirations, saying, “We’re gonna find twins. Somebody who understands the same lifestyle that we live, so we’re waiting for that moment.” This notion encapsulates their intertwined lives and the significance of shared experiences in their relationships.
