Nick Cannon has recently addressed a comment made by his eldest daughter, Monroe, which went viral on social media, sending shockwaves through the online community. During a discussion on Shannon Sharpe’s Club Shay Shay podcast, Cannon sought to clarify his daughter’s words, explaining that they had been misinterpreted in a context far removed from their original intent.

The actor and comedian, who is a father to twelve children, shares twins Moroccan and Monroe, aged 15, with his ex-wife, pop superstar Mariah Carey. Following their separation and subsequent divorce in 2016, Cannon welcomed ten more children with various partners.

In November 2025, Monroe took to her Instagram Stories to set the record straight about her sibling relationships. She stated, “clearing something up guys, i only have ONE brother who is @moroccan.cannon. i do have other half siblings from my dad but they are all many many years younger than me!” This comment quickly gained attention online, prompting questions and commentary from netizens.
Cannon explained to Sharpe that the confusion stemmed from a misunderstanding among some of Monroe’s peers who were claiming to be her siblings. The comedian noted that her statement was simply meant to clarify her brotherly connection to Moroccan within their age group rather than to diminish her relationships with her other half-siblings. “It was really about 14-year-olds talking,” he remarked, indicating that the situation had escalated due to social media dynamics.
In the podcast interview, Cannon expressed concern about how Monroe was affected by the reaction to her words. He emphasised that her comment was taken out of context and that she felt upset by how other people had interpreted her intentions. “She was like, ‘I didn’t mean that. I said my dad has other kids’,” he recounted, highlighting the misunderstandings that can easily arise in the online realm.
Additionally, Cannon reminded Monroe of the potential repercussions of posting contentious comments on social media. He reflected on the importance of being cautious about what one shares, particularly in an age where information can be rapidly misconstrued and spread. “Let this be a lesson that you gotta be very careful what you say on social media,” he advised her, acknowledging the growing pains that come with adolescence and public scrutiny.
Cannon also noted that while Monroe was deeply bothered by the unfolding of events, she felt apologetic regarding the reactions of her other siblings, who are still young and may not grasp the complexity of the situation. He viewed her experience as an important opportunity for learning and growth, both for her and for others navigating similar challenges in their teenage years.
Beyond Monroe and Moroccan, Cannon’s family tree includes sons Golden Sagon and Rise Messiah Cannon, as well as daughter Powerful Queen with Brittany Bell. He is also the father of twins Zion Mixolydian and Zillion Heir, alongside daughter Beautiful Zeppelin, who he shares with Abby De La Rosa. Furthermore, he has a son, Legendary Love, with Bre Tiesi, and a daughter, Onyx Ice Cole, with LaNisha Cole. His first son with Alyssa Scott, Zen, tragically passed away shortly after birth, while daughter Halo Marie Cannon was born in December 2022.
Reflecting on his parenting journey, Cannon has previously expressed a degree of regret regarding the number of children he has fathered. In interviews, he has acknowledged that some of his decisions were made without sufficient forethought, stating that he was “being careless, being frivolous” with his choices. Nonetheless, he has consistently highlighted the joy and pride he takes in being a father to his large and diverse family.
As Cannon continues to navigate the complexities of parenthood, he remains committed to fostering a supportive environment for his children. His recent experiences with Monroe serve as a poignant reminder of the delicate nature of communication in a digital age, particularly for young individuals growing up under the scrutiny of public eyes. The story highlights not only the challenges of parenting in the modern world, but also the significance of open dialogue within families as they work to understand one another amidst changing dynamics.
