In a recent appearance on *The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon*, Robert Irwin shared a harrowing experience involving his pet crocodile named Jimmy Fallon. The 22-year-old, who is also known for his success on the reality competition *Dancing with the Stars*, recounted the frightening moment he was “death-rolled” by the impressive 14-foot creature.

The encounter occurred during research into crocodile conservation, a subject that has been a significant part of Robert’s life since his father, the iconic Steve Irwin, passed away in 2006. As he unveiled the story, Robert stated, “You know what? He’s not a baby anymore,” referring to his crocodile, which now holds the status of a “Boss croc.”
In a shocking revelation, Robert explained how an approach developed by his father was the basis for his risky interaction with Jimmy Fallon. “My dad came up with this method where you actually have to jump on them,” he noted, demonstrating his bond with both his parent’s legacy and the crocodiles themselves. He continued, “So I jumped on the back of [my crocodile] Jimmy Fallon and get this — he death-rolled me.”
Robert depicted a tense scene where he found himself trapped beneath the crocodile. “I’m stuck underneath him with my arm hanging out, and I’ve got probably … 700 pounds on top of me,” he recounted, recalling the sheer weight of the animal and the panic of the moment.
Despite the terrifying turn of events, Robert managed to escape unharmed, attributing his survival to sheer luck. “Luckily, he rolled back the other way, and I was fine,” he said, exemplifying a mix of relief and admiration for his reptilian companion. “But he’s a goer, Jimmy!” he added, demonstrating that even a brush with danger does not diminish his affection for the crocodile.
Earlier in the show, Robert reflected on a poignant performance he delivered during *Dancing with the Stars*, where he paid tribute to his mother, Terri Irwin, with the song “You’ll Be in My Heart.” This reflective moment resonated with the audience, as Robert articulated the importance of sharing personal journeys through dance. “It was the first time I really told kind of my journey of grief and the way that she helped me through that,” he mentioned, illustrating his emotional connection to the experience.
The dance performance served not only as an artistic expression but also as a significant turning point in his life. “To use your body as this expression of self, to share such a deeply personal story through the lens of gratitude for my mum — that’s when I realised dance is storytelling, that’s all it is,” he added thoughtfully.
Robert’s compassion towards wildlife and strong ties to his family legacy continue to shine through both his conservation efforts and artistic achievements. He brings a sense of purpose to his work, drawing inspiration from his father while honouring his mother, who has also played a critical role in his life following the loss of Steve.
Fans eager to see more of Robert Irwin can look forward to his hosting role in the upcoming *Dancing with the Stars* spinoff, *Dancing with the Stars: The Next Pro*, set to debut in July. As he navigates the complexities of fame, personal challenges, and conservation work, Robert remains a significant figure in celebrating his family’s legacy and advocating for wildlife protection.
