Justin Baldoni has expressed his satisfaction regarding the recent resolution of the legal dispute surrounding the film adaptation of “It Ends With Us”. His lawyer, Bryan Freedman, confirmed that both Baldoni, who is also a co-producer on the project, and fellow producer Jamie Heath are “ecstatic” about the outcome. The settlement comes just weeks before the case was set to go to trial in New York, marking a significant turning point after months of litigation.

The settlement follows a series of developments that led to Baldoni’s dismissal from the case before any discussions about settlement began. Freedman clarified that Baldoni was not a participant in the settlement process, stating, “Justin’s already out of the case by the time this settlement discussion even starts. This is not his settlement,” he explained. This distinction is important as it underscores Baldoni’s disengagement from the ongoing legal proceedings and shifts focus towards the resolution reached by the remaining parties.

Freedman also conveyed that the legal landscape had altered considerably before the conclusion of the case, noting that ten out of thirteen claims had been dismissed due to a summary judgment motion. Additionally, five individuals withdrew from the litigation, which narrowed the dispute to a conflict primarily involving Blake Lively and the film’s production entities, including Wayfarer Studios, co-founded by Baldoni.
The formal end to the legal battle occurred on May 4, with attorneys representing both sides announcing the settlement. This development was particularly timely, as it came just under two weeks before the trial was due to commence. In a collective statement, the parties expressed their commitment to both the film and to supporting survivors of domestic violence, emphasising their dedication to fostering safe workplace environments free of misconduct.
The origins of this dispute can be traced back to December 2024 when Blake Lively accused Baldoni of sexual harassment during the production of “It Ends With Us”. Lively alleged that Baldoni was involved in a concerted effort to undermine her reputation. Baldoni has consistently denied these allegations and subsequently filed a countersuit seeking $400 million, although this was ultimately dismissed by the court.
In April, U.S. District Judge Lewis Liman dismissed multiple claims made by Lively, including those concerning harassment, defamation, and civil conspiracy. However, some allegations related to retaliation were permitted to go forward, indicating the complexity of the legal issues at play.
Despite the challenges surrounding the litigation, Freedman described the settlement as a “logical ending” to a case from which Baldoni had already removed himself. He reiterated that Baldoni and Heath were content with the resolution, which has allowed them to move forward from a protracted and public legal dispute.
As the dust settles on this matter, both Baldoni and Lively have expressed their continued commitment to the values represented in “It Ends With Us” and the importance of addressing issues related to domestic violence. The resolution of this case not only offers closure for the individuals involved but also serves to reaffirm the significance of the film’s message and its impact on broader societal conversations.
With the resolution confirmed, attention may now shift towards the film itself and its anticipated release, along with the legacy that “It Ends With Us” aims to cultivate as a supporter of victims and a champion for change.
