In a shocking turn of events, a bobcat attack in Prescott, Arizona, has left a local woman injured but has also highlighted the bravery of her German Shepherd, Moses. The incident occurred on the morning of Monday, May 4, when the woman, who preferred to remain anonymous, was out walking her dog.

As she enjoyed her morning routine, the woman recalled the terrifying moment when the bobcat lunged at her. “This cat came at me and jumped me. I initially thought it was a coyote because we rarely see bobcats around here,” she reported to local news outlet 12 News. After attempting to fend off the aggressive animal, she found herself knocked to the ground.
Moses, her trusty German Shepherd, stepped in to protect her. Despite the owner’s desperate pleas for him to flee, Moses demonstrated loyalty and courage by confronting the bobcat. The dog ultimately killed the bobcat in a dramatic confrontation right outside their home. “I was afraid. I kept saying go, go, go to Moses,” she shared. “I wanted him to get away, but when I got back, he had killed the bobcat.”

The owner praised her dog’s actions, expressing her admiration for his bravery: “He’s an amazing dog and he’s also very sweet.” While Moses is vaccinated against rabies, he will need to undergo a six-week quarantine at home as a precaution. The woman herself is now also receiving treatment for the injuries she sustained during the attack, describing her injuries as “painful,” yet she remained thankful that the situation was not more severe.
This incident forms part of a worrying pattern, as it was one of four separate bobcat attacks reported in the Prescott area over the weekend. The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office issued a social media alert addressing the alarming rise in attacks. The first incident occurred on Sunday evening, when a male victim sustained “significant injuries” and required medical treatment from a local hospital.
Just hours later, in a separate attack roughly 7.5 miles from the initial incident, the woman and Moses were targeted. Additionally, a third attack involving another dog was reported shortly after. While authorities have not confirmed whether the bobcat that attacked Moses was linked to previous incidents, they noted that such aggressive behaviour is typically uncommon for bobcats, suggesting that it was likely the same animal responsible for all four attacks.
Officials have urged local residents to exercise caution and avoid feeding any wildlife, as this could provoke unwanted encounters. They also emphasised the importance of seeking immediate medical attention for anyone involved in a wild animal attack.
As community members grapple with the implications of these incidents, the story of Moses serves as a poignant reminder of the bond between pets and their owners, and the instinctive courage that animals can display in the face of danger.
