Reflecting on her childhood fandom, Khan described her fascination with the Godzilla movies, elaborating, “When we came up with the title ‘Chakzilla’, a multitude of ideas raced through my mind.” Her creative vision for the video presents her as a giant version of the famous monster, yet instead of wreaking havoc, she is depicted as a force for good. “Rather than becoming a monster that destroys, I embody a kind-hearted character who aims to do good,” she said, highlighting her intention to align the character with her own values.

In her pursuit of altruism, Khan stated, “I want to mend the turmoil plaguing society, striving to assist those enduring tough times.” Her desire to address the chaos in the world today reflects a compassionate mission underlying the song’s creation. Khan aims to restore balance and positivity in a troubled era, emphasising her commitment to uplifting others through her artistry.

While filming the “Chakzilla” music video was a fun and whimsical experience, she admitted there were challenges involved in the production. “I enjoyed wandering through the quaint streets and interacting with tiny cars as I cleaned up a ravaged city,” she shared with a chuckle. However, she further remarked, “My favourite moment came when it all wrapped up; it was truly a lot of work.”
The collaboration between Khan and Sia produced not only the single but also a forthcoming album, aptly titled “Chakzilla,” set for release on 18 September via BMG Rights Management. The duo’s synergy is evident, with Sia having initially conceived the album’s catchy title. Khan praised Sia’s ingenuity, stating, “I would have never come up with such a clever title. She’s incredibly creative, constantly generating numerous ideas.”
Khan described her upcoming album as a return to her roots, indicative of her musical evolution over the years. She described the project as lively and filled with exceptional pop-dance tracks. This release will mark her first major body of work since the 2019 album “Hello Happiness” and promises an exciting new chapter for the celebrated artist.
Recognising the significance of her career milestones, Khan has been honoured with a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction in 2025, followed by a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2026. While she appreciates the accolades, her perspective remains firmly focused on future achievements. “When you receive acknowledgments like that, it’s indeed gratifying,” she mentioned, adding, “However, I am inherently a forward thinker. I’m always looking ahead.”
As she enters this new musical era, Khan expressed her hope for the public to embrace her return to pop music. “I genuinely wish people resonate with this music and connect with my journey back into pop, which I am passionate about,” she stated. Her aim is to not only delight fans with her artistry but also to share an inspiring message of hope and positivity embedded within the music.
In this exciting revival of her illustrious career, Chaka Khan remains a powerful voice with an enduring legacy, and “Chakzilla” is set to reaffirm her status in the music industry while bringing a smile to listeners everywhere.
