A tragic incident unfolded in Carrollton, Texas, earlier this week, as two individuals lost their lives during a shooting that occurred during a business meeting at the K Towne Plaza shopping centre. The violence, described by authorities as targeted and not random, has left the community in shock.

The incident took place on 5 May, shortly before 10 a.m., as local police responded to reports of gunfire. Carrollton Police Chief Roberto Arredondo confirmed that the suspect, identified as 69-year-old Seung Ho Han, was taken into custody shortly after the shooting. Upon arrival, officers discovered multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Tragically, one male victim was pronounced dead at the scene while a female and two males were transported to a nearby hospital, where they remained in stable condition.
As law enforcement investigated the primary shooting, a second incident was reported roughly an hour later at a nearby apartment complex. Officers found another male victim inside the apartment, who had also succumbed to gunshot wounds. Officials determined that the same suspect was involved in both shootings, adding to the gravity of the situation.
Chief Arredondo stated that the individuals who were shot were engaged in a business-related meeting with the suspect, emphasising that the events were not the result of random violence. He commented, “It was a known business relationship. We are still working through trying to identify his causes.” However, authorities have yet to clarify the specific nature of the business dealings in question.
Following the shootings, Han allegedly confessed to targeting all five victims, reportedly telling police that his actions were driven by anger stemming from financial disputes related to their business interactions. This revelation has raised questions about the motivations behind the attack and the relationship dynamics involved.
Han was apprehended at H-Mart, a shopping centre located a few miles from the initial shooting site. Chief Arredondo noted that undercover officers were able to track the suspect’s vehicle and determine his location, leading to his arrest without further incident after a brief foot chase.
The police have urged the public to steer clear of the area while the investigation was ongoing, with assistance also provided by the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Currently, specific charges against Han have not been disclosed.
Carrollton, a suburb of Dallas with a diverse population of around 130,000, is home to K Towne Plaza, which is situated in the city’s Koreatown district, a hub known for its dining and retail establishments. The community is now grappling with the aftermath of this violent episode, leading local leaders to express sorrow and call for reflection.
John Jun, a representative of the Korean Americans Coalition DFW Chapter, spoke to the media about the unexpected nature of the tragedy, stating, “Conflicts happen no matter what community you live in. It’s unfortunate when it does happen. We’re mourning that this happened. It’s unexpected. I think we all need to realise it could happen in any community, and at the same time, we all need to work to resolve things in a better way rather than just turning to violence.”
