Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni have resolved their legal disputes surrounding the film “It Ends with Us,” with both parties announcing a settlement on 4 May. The decision comes after an extensive and contentious legal saga that began in December 2024 when Lively, aged 38, filed a sexual harassment complaint against Baldoni, 42, and his production company, Wayfarer Studios.

Initially, Lively’s allegations led to a series of counterclaims from Baldoni, including accusations of extortion and defamation, which were subsequently dismissed by a U.S. District Judge in June 2025. However, Lively’s claims, including those of retaliation, were permitted to progress in court until recently, when ten of her thirteen claims were dismissed by Judge Lewis J. Liman during a ruling made on 2 April 2025.

Public relations expert Gary Rosen commented on the legal entanglement, indicating that it has caused unnecessary strain on both actors’ careers. He observed that the ongoing nature of the dispute had not served either party well and marked it as an ongoing game of “he said, she said,” which ultimately muddled both of their public images. “It didn’t help either one of their careers, and it got so messy,” Rosen noted.
Financially, the prolonged battle was costly for both Lively and Baldoni, with high-priced legal fees being a significant drain. “The ones who benefited were the lawyers,” Rosen remarked, underscoring the burden of their drawn-out conflict. By deciding to settle just two weeks before the scheduled trial, Rosen suggested that Lively and Baldoni extended their struggles unnecessarily.
Despite the complexity of the situation, the announcement of a settlement seems to offer a semblance of closure to a challenging period for both parties. Their joint statement reflected a commitment to improving workplace environments, acknowledging Lively’s concerns deserved to be heard. “The end product — the movie It Ends with Us — is a source of pride to all of us who worked to bring it to life,” the statement read, encapsulating their dedication to the project.
In light of the resolution, PR expert Rosen advised Lively and Baldoni to take some time away from the public eye to focus on rebuilding their professional images. “It’s time to lay low and focus on other things and rebuild your career and your brand,” he suggested, reinforcing the idea that second chances are indeed possible in the entertainment industry.
Looking ahead, both actors have upcoming projects lined up. Baldoni is producing an upcoming biopic titled “Dinner with Audrey,” which features Thomasin McKenzie portraying Audrey Hepburn, with Ansel Elgort cast as Count Hubert de Givenchy. Meanwhile, Lively is set to star in and produce an action romantic comedy called “The Survival List,” signalling that both are eager to move forward in their careers.
The resolution of the legal disputes may provide both actors with the opportunity to refocus their energies on their respective careers, steering clear of the controversies that previously engulfed them. As they embark on new ventures, Lively and Baldoni are likely hoping to define their trajectories anew, away from the shadows of this protracted legal battle.
