A United States Secret Service officer has been arrested after allegedly exposing himself and engaging in inappropriate behaviour in a Miami hotel corridor. The officer, identified as 33-year-old John Andrew Spillman, was reportedly off duty following a security assignment related to former President Donald Trump’s visit to the area.

The incident, which took place in the early hours of Monday, has raised eyebrows and concerns among the public and law enforcement. According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, Spillman was found naked in a hotel hallway at the DoubleTree by Hilton Miami Airport & Convention Center, where he was allegedly masturbating. The arrest comes after a hotel guest informed police that Spillman had followed her from the lobby to her room.

Witness accounts indicate that the woman, concerned for her safety, hurriedly retreated to her accommodation after noticing Spillman’s attention. She later encountered him outside her room, prompting her to alert hotel security and law enforcement officials. This prompted further investigation into his actions.
Hotel security corroborated the woman’s account, confirming that they had seen Spillman engaging in similar behaviour on the sixth floor before law enforcement arrived at the scene. Deputies detained Spillman shortly thereafter, around midnight, without any resistance.
Spillman, originally from Marble Falls, Texas, has been with the Secret Service’s uniformed division since 2019. His recent deployment in South Florida was part of a security detail connected to the 2026 PGA Cadillac Championship held at Trump National Doral. Authorities confirmed that he was off duty at the time of the alleged misconduct.
In response to the incident, the Secret Service released a statement acknowledging Spillman’s arrest and indicating that he has been placed on administrative leave while an internal investigation is conducted. Richard Macauley, the chief of the agency’s uniformed division, stated that Spillman’s behaviour is “unacceptable” and “stands in stark contrast to the professionalism and integrity” the agency expects from its personnel.
The officer was processed into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami-Dade County and has since been released on a $1,000 bond. Following his arrest, he made a brief appearance in bond court; however, the presiding judge did not reference Spillman’s employment with the federal agency during the proceedings.
As of now, it remains unclear whether Spillman has secured legal representation, as no attorney has been listed in the court records. Additionally, the local public defender’s office has refrained from commenting on the case.
A hearing for Spillman is scheduled for May 27, where more details regarding the charges against him are expected to emerge. The public and media will be keenly observing the developments in this case, given the serious implications of his actions and the scrutiny that accompanies the conduct of individuals in law enforcement.
