Kendall Jenner made a striking impression once again as she graced the red carpet at the 2026 Met Gala, held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The 30-year-old supermodel attended her first Met Gala back in 2014 at the tender age of 18, and since then, she has become a celebrated presence at this prominent fashion event.

This year’s theme, “Fashion Is Art,” inspired Jenner’s custom-made attire, which was designed by Zac Posen, the creative director of Gap Inc. The theme directly correlates with the Met’s latest exhibition, “Costume Art,” which showcases historic garments alongside significant works of fine art.
Jenner’s look was significantly inspired by the ancient sculpture “Winged Victory of Samothrace,” a representation of the Greek goddess Nike that dates back to 190 BCE. The innovative design process began with one of Gap’s classic white T-shirts, which Posen transformed into a stunning fashion statement by integrating tea-dyed jersey with leather, chiffon, and organza.
Describing his creative motivation, Posen reflected on the sculpture’s essence, stating, “It has so much life in it… It plays between reality. The balance between fantasy and reality and movement and expression in the sculpture is deeply powerful.” He aimed to encapsulate that energetic quality into the dress while simultaneously paying respect to the source material.
This marked Posen’s first collaboration with Jenner, and he expressed his desire for the outfit to embody a “strong, powerful woman.” To achieve this, Posen’s team utilised leather crafted in collaboration with the New York brand SEKS, renowned for their leatherwork. The design process was meticulously precise as Posen 3D-scanned Jenner’s body to ensure the leather fit perfectly.
Part of the innovative design included a form that felt “paper thin,” allowing it to be skillfully moulded and shaped. Posen cleverly selected satin-based washed chiffon and organza to create an illusion, a technique aimed at “suspending reality” through the garment.
Intriguingly, the ensemble also featured wings, though these were not made from feathers at Jenner’s request. Posen explained that they studied photographic representations of the sculpture’s wings, which inspired them to create large-scale prints mounted onto the satin-based chiffon, enhancing the visual impact of the overall look.
This year’s Met Gala was co-chaired by notable celebrities including Beyoncé, who made her return after a decade, alongside Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams, and fashion icon Anna Wintour. The event is renowned not just for its extravagant fashion, but also for celebrating the intersection of cultural history and contemporary artistry.
Since her debut, Jenna’s Met Gala appearances have continually evolved in boldness and artistry. Her very first attire featured a blush-hued Topshop gown adorned with an impressive 82 carats of Chopard diamonds. In subsequent years, she sported a variety of unforgettable styles, including a sheer black gown embellished with 85,000 crystals and a vibrant orange Versace number embellished with feathers.
In 2021, Jenner made headlines with a modern take on a classic look, honouring Audrey Hepburn through a homage to a Givenchy creation. Last year, she celebrated the theme “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” with a striking tailored grey suit that was heavily influenced by the influential figures of the Harlem Renaissance.
As the Met Gala continues to serve as a barometer of fashion innovation, Kendall Jenner has firmly established herself as a formidable force in the industry, blending art and fashion in ways that draw from history while pushing contemporary boundaries. With her standout looks throughout the years, she not only honours the art of fashion but also inspires the future of the industry. The 2026 Met Gala has proven yet again to be a spectacular celebration of artistry, creativity, and self-expression.
