In a recent interview on CBS Mornings, Grammy Award-winning artist Lizzo addressed the ongoing legal disputes with her former backup dancers. The singer made it clear that she has no intention of settling the lawsuits filed against her, which involve allegations of bullying and harassment. Lizzo firmly maintains that these accusations are unfounded.

During her chat with journalist Gayle King, Lizzo explained her rationale for contesting the lawsuits, stating, “I think it is an easy out, but I’m fighting the case because I know that it’s not true.” The allegations surfaced after three of her former dancers—Crystal Williams, Arianna Davis, and Noelle Rodriguez—sued her in August 2023, accusing her of creating a hostile work environment and pressuring them into inappropriate situations at a sex show in Amsterdam.

Lizzo expressed confidence in her position, insisting that the truth is “less salacious than the headlines.” She conveyed eagerness for the matter to be resolved, revealing that she initially approached her public remarks with caution due to her understanding of the impact her image has on fans. “I cannot wait for it to be dismissed,” she said, adding, “The truth will come out, and that’s why I’m not afraid of it.”
Further complicating matters, Asha Daniels, a former wardrobe assistant for Lizzo, joined the legal fray by filing her own lawsuit against the artist in September 2023. Daniels alleged that the environment during the tour was “racist and sexualised.” While Lizzo’s legal team sought to dismiss this case, motions filed in December 2023 and again in July 2025 resulted in the case continuing without Lizzo as an individual defendant; however, her touring company remained involved.
The developments stretched into 2024 when Lizzo filed a motion to dismiss the allegations brought forth by her former backup dancers. While some claims were indeed dropped, others persisted, and the overall motion failed. This legal tussle continued, with Lizzo appealing in June 2025, implying the lawsuit was an infringement on her “First Amendment right to perform.”
The singer’s public responses have been a mix of defiance and determination. In December 2024, following a judge’s ruling that dismissed claims of fat-shaming made by the ex-dancers, Lizzo took to social media to declare victory over those allegations. “The fat-shaming claims against me have been officially dropped by my accusers,” she stated, asserting there was no evidence to support the notion that she fired her dancers based on their weight.
As the lawsuits unfold, Lizzo has continued her musical career, releasing her latest single titled “Bitch” this month. An album of the same name is slated for release on June 5, 2026, demonstrating her resolve to focus on her artistry amid the controversies.
In the wake of this turbulent period, Lizzo’s steadfastness in addressing the allegations marks her commitment to defending her reputation and the values she represents as an artist and a public figure. The legal battles may yet have further chapters, but Lizzo remains optimistic about the outcome, reiterating that she believes the truth will ultimately prevail.
