According to officials, the incident took place shortly after Schreiber’s long-term girlfriend ended their relationship on April 17. Following the breakup, she secured the home, preventing him from entering. However, the very next day, on April 18, Schreiber allegedly unlawfully entered the residence through an unlocked window around 8 a.m., while the occupants were still asleep.

Upon entering the home, Schreiber reportedly proceeded to the victim’s bedroom. Authorities allege that he kicked the door open and subsequently stabbed the victim, a 22-year-old man, seven times across his head, neck, and shoulder. The attack was interrupted by family members of the victim, who intervened and promptly contacted emergency services.

Following the violent confrontation, the victim managed to escape downstairs, where he was quickly attended to by ambulance services. He was transported to NYU Langone Hospital, where medical professionals applied numerous staples to his wounds, as reported by authorities. The details of his condition remain undisclosed, but the severity of the attack has raised alarms.
Local law enforcement apprehended Schreiber at the scene of the crime. In a crucial development for the case, investigators reportedly found the knife believed to be used in the assault in Schreiber’s possession. The Suffolk County District Attorney, Raymond A. Tierney, expressed the seriousness of the situation, describing it as a “violent attack on a young man in his own home.”
Tierney remarked that domestic violence poses significant concerns, stating, “Domestic violence does not always end when a relationship does; it often escalates.” He assured the public and the victim’s family that the office would pursue the case with utmost diligence, seeking justice for the harmed individual and their loved ones.
In total, Schreiber is facing multiple charges, including second-degree attempted murder, first-degree burglary, first-degree attempted assault, second-degree assault, and criminal possession of a weapon. Additionally, he has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child and second-degree harassment.
Currently, Schreiber is being held on bail set at $1 million. He is expected to appear in court again on May 28. If convicted of the most serious charges against him, he faces the possibility of spending up to 25 years behind bars.
This incident highlights the alarming nature of domestic violence, which can persist and escalate even after relationships have ended. Authorities continue to encourage anyone experiencing similar circumstances to seek help. Those in need can contact the National Domestic Violence Hotline for support, available 24/7 in multiple languages.
As the case continues to develop, residents of Suffolk County are urged to remain vigilant. The aftermath of such violent incidents can have lasting effects on individuals, families, and communities. Further updates are expected as the court date approaches and as the investigation unfolds.
