Miranda Kerr, the renowned model and entrepreneur, has shared how her dedication to meditation has begun to influence her children, particularly her 15-year-old son, Flynn. During a recent conversation at the Living Beauty Cancer Foundation’s Annual Spring Luncheon, Kerr spoke about the significance of mindfulness in her life and its role in nurturing a balanced lifestyle for her entire family.

Meditation, described by Kerr as an “incredible tool,” became part of her life when she first learned the practice at the age of 17. Over the years, she has committed more time to it, especially within the past year, designating moments in her busy routine to meditate, often before her children rise for the day. “I don’t have the luxury of having 20 minutes twice a day, but I do have the luxury right now of fitting it in the morning before the kids wake up,” she explained.

The positive impact of her meditation practice has not only contributed to Kerr’s well-being but also inspired Flynn and his younger brothers. “I’ve taught the kids their own mantra which was given to them by my Vedic meditation teacher,” Kerr said. The teacher even conducted a brief ceremony where she guided Flynn and his two younger brothers, aged six and seven, through a meditation session. Flynn, she shared, has been particularly consistent with the routine, finding it grounding and beneficial.
Kerr’s parenting philosophy revolves around actions speaking louder than words. She believes that children often take cues from their parents’ behaviours rather than just their words. She noted, “When Flynn sees me daily doing my meditation and the benefits that it gives me, he’s like, ‘Oh, that’s interesting. I’d like to try that’.” It appears that this enthusiasm has resonated with Flynn’s peers, as he has inspired a little group of friends to learn meditation alongside him, culminating in a shared session where they all received their mantras.
The model and businesswoman hopes that meditation will become a lifelong resource for her children. “I’m sure it’ll be something that he will lean on more in certain times of his life, but it’s just a good thing to have in their toolkit,” she stated, recognising the potential for mindfulness to aid her children in navigating life’s challenges.
As Mother’s Day approaches, Kerr candidly shared her simple wish for the day: “Honestly, I just want to be having a cup of tea in bed. That’s a real luxury to me.” For her, there’s a special joy in sharing these peaceful moments with her children while enjoying the sunrise together.
Aside from her nurturing role as a mother and her mindfulness practices, Kerr reflected on Flynn’s upcoming milestones, such as learning to drive. She expressed her belief that he will be ready to dive into the experience next year. Recalling her own upbringing, she mentioned, “I grew up learning stick, and I wanted him to learn stick as well,” reflecting a desire to equip her son with practical skills for his future.
Miranda Kerr’s insights reveal a profound commitment to creating a conscious environment for her family, where wellbeing is prioritised and holistic practices are embraced. As the influence of mindfulness grows amongst her children, it seems that Kerr is not only fostering a healthy lifestyle but also empowering them with valuable tools for emotional and mental resilience.
