Following her own journey as a cancer survivor, Roe Roe has dedicated each birthday since completing her treatment at the age of six to raising funds for the very hospital that aided her recovery.

This year, Roe Roe’s commitment truly exceeded expectations, as she raised an impressive £10,000 within just 48 hours. Her father, Chad Tucker, expressed his amazement at the magnitude of this fundraising effort. “When she raised £10,000 in less than two days, that’s when it hit me,” he shared. “This had grown beyond us.”
The tradition began on a significant day; it was the moment Roe Roe rang the bell, symbolising her victory over two years of leukemia treatment. This milestone inspired her to turn her annual birthday celebrations into a vehicle for giving back to the hospital that provided her with crucial care. As she articulated, “Because the hospital helped me get better, I wanted to help them too.”
Through her fundraisers, Roe Roe aims to support the paediatric oncology clinic that played a pivotal role in her treatment. Chad Tucker shared the profound connections that often develop amongst young cancer patients, saying, “You get to know a lot of kids with cancer when you are on this journey.”

During Roe Roe’s treatment, Chad registered as a bone marrow donor, not realising how that decision would play a critical role in the life of someone else. He was later identified as a match for a woman in Australia suffering from leukemia. He shared the joyous news that she is currently alive and thriving, expressing his hope to meet her one day.
Despite the growing scale of her efforts, Roe Roe’s intentions remain wonderfully simple. “I hope they see hope,” she said, referring to the children who benefit from her fundraising. “I want them to feel like they’re not alone.” Each birthday celebration now serves as a poignant reminder of her journey and offers a renewed opportunity to extend support to families facing similar challenges.
