A former employee of a Chick-fil-A restaurant in Grapevine, Texas, has been arrested following allegations of committing extensive financial fraud whilst employed at the establishment. The 29-year-old man has been charged with property theft, money laundering, and evading arrest after reportedly refunding approximately 800 orders of mac and cheese directly to his personal credit cards.

According to the Grapevine Police Department, the fraudulent activities resulted in a staggering loss of over $80,000 to the restaurant. Security footage captured the employee processing the orders, subsequently refunding them to his personal accounts, a feat that went unnoticed until it was reported by the restaurant’s owner.

The alleged misconduct came to light when Jarvis Boyd, the owner/operator of the local Chick-fil-A, noticed discrepancies in the accounts and alerted the authorities in November 2025. Investigation revealed that the ex-employee had been dismissed from his position just a month prior to the incident, which allowed him unfettered access to the restaurant’s system during the period of the theft.
After being implicated in the case, the suspect reportedly evaded law enforcement several times. His evasion came to an end when he was apprehended on April 17, 2026, thanks to the collaborative efforts of the Texas Attorney General’s Fugitive Task Force and the Fort Worth Police Department.
In a statement provided to local media, a representative from Chick-fil-A acknowledged that the situation is still under investigation and directed inquiries to law enforcement. The spokesperson highlighted the company’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of its operations and would not comment further on the ongoing legal proceedings.
The case has raised eyebrows not only due to the scale of the alleged financial misconduct but also in light of recent violent incidents involving Chick-fil-A locations across the United States. For instance, a shooting incident at a Chick-fil-A in New Jersey earlier this month left one person dead and several others wounded, underscoring the heightened scrutiny the restaurant chain is facing.
In that New Jersey incident, police responded to reports of gunfire late on the evening of April 11, leading to an ongoing investigation by the Union County Prosecutor’s Office. As this alarming news broke, the department withheld details about the victims and suspects involved, stating that further information would be made available as the investigation progresses.
Community sentiment regarding these events is complex, as many patrons express dismay over the negative headlines surrounding their favourite fast-food chain. Franchise owners are acutely aware of the potential impact on their businesses and are keenly observing the outcomes of the ongoing investigations.
As authorities navigate both the financial fraud case in Texas and the violent incident in New Jersey, pressure mounts on Chick-fil-A to address operational vulnerabilities that might have allowed these occurrences to unfold, jeopardising the integrity and safety of its establishments.
With investigations unfolding in both cases, the Chick-fil-A brand faces critical challenges ahead. Stakeholders, including employees, patrons, and management, will be closely monitoring developments as they seek assurance that rigorous measures are being undertaken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
