An engaged couple’s life has been turned upside down following a tragic car accident that occurred in Cleveland, Ohio, on April 24. Payton Toombs and her fiancé, Maverick, were only months away from their wedding when their plans were abruptly interrupted by the collision, which claimed one life and resulted in several injuries.

At the time of the incident, Payton and Maverick were travelling at a modest speed of 25 mph when another vehicle, allegedly speeding at nearly 100 mph, struck them. The crash involved multiple vehicles and left four individuals injured in total. On April 27, reports confirmed that Zayd Alameen, the alleged perpetrator of the crash, had been taken into custody. He has been charged with aggravated vehicular assault and aggravated vehicular homicide. Authorities stated he had stolen the vehicle he was driving just moments before colliding with Payton and Maverick. Despite also being injured in the crash, Alameen was arrested shortly after being released from hospital care.
