A well-loved establishment at Disneyland’s Downtown Disney, Jamba, is set to close its doors after a long tenure of 23 years. The smoothie chain, which specialises in a variety of fruit-based drinks and healthy snacks, will cease operations on 6th July. This closure will pave the way for the introduction of Bopo Go! café, a bubble tea shop that promises to deliver an authentic and high-quality drinking experience.

Jamba, originally known as Jamba Juice, has been a popular destination for visitors looking for smoothies, fruit bowls, and a selection of light bites since it first opened its doors in the Anaheim outdoor shopping mall in 2003. Following a remodel in 2020, it dropped ‘Juice’ from its name, but it continued to attract crowds with its range of offerings that included matcha beverages, cold brews, and an assortment of sandwiches and pretzels.

The new Bopo Go! café is being brought to life by Eric Wang and Philip Wang, the co-owners of the successful Bopomofo Café. The upcoming shop will join Bopo Go!’s existing locations across Southern California. According to the Disney Parks announcement, the café aims to serve high-quality bubble tea made with real fruits, vegetables, and lactose-free alternatives, ensuring a fresh and authentic taste without any artificial ingredients.
Bopo Go! café is enthusiastic about their commitment to using top-grade ingredients. They intend to source their tea from farmers in Taiwan and have secured ceremonial grade matcha from Japan. This dedication to quality reflects a broader trend in the food service industry, where consumers increasingly demand transparency about ingredient sourcing and preparation methods.
In line with its Asian convenience store inspiration, Bopo Go! will not only feature bubble tea but will also offer a selection of signature beverages alongside a variety of light snacks and imported candies, further enhancing its appeal to clientele searching for novel tastes and experiences.
As part of a broader renovation and revitalisation plan, Disneyland has grand plans for Downtown Disney. Alongside Bopo Go!, the area is set to introduce two additional restaurants curated by Michelin-starred Chef Joe Isidori in April 2025. These eateries, named Arthur & Sons Steak and Bourbon and Pearl’s Roadside BBQ, aim to elevate the dining options available in the popular shopping and entertainment hub.
Arthur & Sons is expected to serve premium cuts of beef and fresh seafood, alongside sandwiches and salads, all complemented by a diverse selection of bourbon and cocktails, catering to a sophisticated palate. Meanwhile, Pearl’s Roadside BBQ will adopt a quicker service format, marrying chef-inspired modern barbecue fare with traditional North Carolina cookout dishes, set to appeal to those looking for hearty and flavourful options.
The transition from Jamba to Bopo Go! signifies a shift in customer preferences, particularly among younger consumers who are leaning towards healthier, yet indulgent drink and snack options. The focus on bubble tea reflects a growing trend across the United States, where such beverages have become increasingly popular among diverse demographics.
As Downtown Disney continues to evolve and enhance its offerings, it remains a vital component of the Disneyland experience, drawing visitors eager to explore new culinary delights while embracing the multifaceted culture that Disneyland represents. The impending changes will undoubtedly usher in a fresh chapter for the shopping district, fostering excitement around what’s to come.
