A tragic incident has unfolded in Chaffee County, Colorado, following the death of 27-year-old Kaden Sites, who was reported missing during a solo turkey hunting trip. He was last seen on April 15, when he set out for an excursion on Shavano Mountain.

Authorities reported that Sites’ truck was located at the Blanks Cabin Trailhead, with his mobile phone left inside. The discovery of the vehicle raised alarms when Sites failed to attend a scheduled doctor’s appointment later that same day. Consequently, family members reported him missing, prompting a considerable search effort involving multiple agencies.
The search for Kaden Sites was extensive, harnessing the skills of volunteer groups alongside professional search teams. The Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) deployed various resources, including dog teams, drones, and helicopters, to comb the area for any sign of the missing hunter. On April 25, a team of volunteer searchers located Sites’ “lifeless” body approximately a mile from where his truck had been found, near Tabaguache Creek. The CCSO released this information following the grim discovery. Sheriff Andy Rohrich expressed deep condolences, noting the impact of Sites’ death on the community. “Our hearts go out to the Sites family and friends this evening. Chaffee County has lost a wonderful member of our community which has left a void in our hearts,” he stated.
According to the sheriff’s office, Sites embarked on his hunting journey around 1:30 PM local time. Upon failing to arrive for his 3:45 PM appointment, concerns grew rapidly, leading to his the family alerting authorities. Notably, while Sites’ phone was located in the truck, investigators reported that its battery was fully drained, complicating efforts to track his movements.
During the challenging days of the search, Sites’ family received an outpouring of support from the local community. His sister, Hannah, shared her gratitude for the collective efforts of those assisting in the search, remarking, “We’re just feeling very fortunate that there are so many people who really care.”
As of now, the cause of Sites’ death has not been officially determined, leaving questions unanswered for his family and friends. Sheriff Rohrich indicated that there was always a glimmer of hope that Sites would be found alive, but expressed relief that the family could achieve some degree of closure following the tragic conclusion.
