In an inspiring tale of creativity and entrepreneurship, siblings Ryker and Haven have transformed their love of crochet into a successful small business. The two children, aged eight and ten, began their crochet journey at a young age, captivated by watching their mother, Connie Johnson, work on various projects at home. Now, they are generating excitement online, with their Etsy shop, ‘Cozy Stitches,’ receiving viral attention after a video showcasing their preparations for a local farmers’ market went viral.

Connie, a stay-at-home mother of five from Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, explains that crochet has long been a part of their lives. “As my kids were growing up, they often watched me spend my quiet time crocheting,” she recalled. Their initial curiosity blossomed when they expressed a desire to learn the craft themselves. It wasn’t long before Ryker and Haven were tackling basic projects, such as washcloths and hot pads, quickly developing a passion for creating.

As their skills improved, so did their output. Connie noted that they began crafting handmade gifts for every holiday and birthday, much to their family’s delight. “Our family could always count on the sweetest, most thoughtful crocheted gifts from these two,” she added. The siblings’ knack for crocheting soon caught the attention of friends and relatives, who were eager to support them by purchasing their items and contributing to their yarn funds.
The prospect of earning money from their craft ignited a new motivation in Ryker and Haven, pushing them to further develop their skills and cement their budding entrepreneurial spirit. “They’re constantly learning, watching tutorials, trying new patterns,” Connie explained. In a heartwarming twist, she mentioned that Ryker and Haven are now even teaching her new techniques.
Recognising their talent and entrepreneurial potential, Connie decided to set up a social media presence and launch an Etsy shop for the youngsters. “I wanted to help bring their dream of selling their work online to life,” she shared. The family was astonished by how quickly their business began to grow, particularly after Connie posted a video of her children preparing for the farmers’ market, which received immediate acclaim.
Within a short span of just three days, the siblings’ Etsy shop received over 100 orders following the viral video. “The joy in our home has been nonstop,” Connie said, articulating the excitement and gratitude felt by Ryker and Haven as they processed their newfound popularity. They have been celebrating their success by dancing around the house, reveling in the support they have received from the community.
Now, the pair produces an impressive range of handmade items, including plush toys, hanging plants, flowers, keychains, hot pads, coasters, and baskets. Their mother reflects on their versatility: “They can create just about anything if they have a pattern to follow.” Witnessing her children embrace their creativity and ambition has filled Connie with joy.
In addition to running their business, Connie hopes that Ryker and Haven’s story serves as an inspiration for other children. “More than anything, I hope their journey encourages other kids to get creative, use their hands, and realise what they’re capable of creating,” she expressed.
Looking to the future, the family has even bigger aspirations. They hope to broaden their impact by offering crochet kits and creating online tutorials aimed at teaching children across the country. “In time, we’d love to help kids everywhere learn to crochet,” Connie said, articulating their vision to promote the craft.
Meanwhile, Ryker and Haven’s dream is simple yet ambitious — according to Connie, they dream of having a dedicated yarn room filled with shelves of colourful yarn. Their story highlights the power of creativity and the entrepreneurial spirit, while showcasing the unique bond between siblings as they navigate their path in the world of crochet together.
