In a recent interview, Paige Shiver has brought to light her complicated relationship with Sherrone Moore, the former head coach at the University of Michigan. Shiver, who served as Moore’s executive assistant, described their relationship as something that was well-known within the athletic department, labelling it an “open secret.”

Shiver recounted her experiences during an appearance on ABC’s Good Morning America, revealing the emotional turmoil she faced while working for Moore. Describing the dynamics at play, she alleged that she endured manipulation and felt her job was constantly at risk due to her connection with Moore. It was only in December 2025, after much contemplation, that she decided to report their relationship to university officials, which ultimately led to Moore’s dismissal.

Throughout her time at the University of Michigan, which began as an intern in 2022, Shiver claims that her consensual relationship with Moore grew in complexity, particularly after he was promoted to the head coaching position in 2024. During her tenure as his executive assistant, Shiver often found herself in a position where she had to manage Moore’s emotional state. Feeling vulnerable and aware of Moore’s significant influence over her career prospects, she described a situation where she was expected to “calm him down” whenever he was upset.

“They knew what he was doing to me,” Shiver expressed, noting that other staff members were aware of the situation but remained silent. She accused the department of prioritising winning football games and safeguarding the reputation of the head coach above the wellbeing of employees. Trust in the university’s human resources process was another concern; Shiver did not feel confident that reporting the relationship would produce any real consequences for Moore.
Among the challenges faced during their relationship, one of the most distressing involved Shiver’s pregnancy. In May 2022, she discovered she was expecting, yet tragically had to terminate the pregnancy due to health complications associated with Pompe disease. Shiver shared her heartbreak, stating that multiple medical professionals advised her against continuing the pregnancy for her own safety. Moore was reportedly supportive during this emotional time, urging her to prioritise her health.
After reporting Moore to the university in December 2025, his termination was swift, occurring on the same day. Paul Corliss, the Assistant Vice President for Public Affairs at the university, confirmed that Moore had been dismissed due to the undisclosed workplace relationship, highlighting a breach of conduct that did not align with the institution’s standards for professional interactions.
The situation escalated dramatically following Shiver’s report, as she alleged Moore had made threats of self-harm while at her residence. In her account, Shiver described being confronted by Moore, who appeared distraught and hostile, ultimately leading to his arrest. Consequently, Moore pleaded no contest to charges stemming from this incident and was sentenced to probation, a decision that Shiver felt did not adequately address the impact of his actions on her life.
“His conduct took no responsibility for what he had done,” she remarked, expressing frustration at the outcome of the legal proceedings. Meanwhile, Moore’s attorney stated that he is focused on moving forward from the incident and has closed this chapter of his life.
The case has raised important questions about workplace relationships and the protections afforded to employees within institutional settings. Shiver’s revelations shine a light on the power dynamics and vulnerabilities faced by those in subordinate roles when involved in such relationships. The University of Michigan has reiterated its commitment to ensuring a safe and respectful workplace, emphasising the importance of accountability among its staff.
Paige Shiver’s candid interview has sparked discussions about workplace culture in collegiate athletics, highlighting the need for transparent processes to protect individuals from potential abuses of power and ensuring that their voices are heard.
