In an inspiring display of tenacity, British Olympian Calli Hauger-Thackery, 33, recently completed the Boston Marathon while 22 weeks pregnant. The event took place on Monday, April 20, and marked the third marathon of her pregnancy, a testament to her dedication to the sport even as she anticipates the arrival of her first child with her husband, Nick Hauger, this August.
Hauger-Thackery first caught the marathon bug in December 2025, when she unknowingly tackled the Honolulu Marathon. Shortly thereafter, she participated in the Houston Marathon in January 2026, where she secured victory with an impressive finish time of 2:24:17. Her recent performance in Boston, which put her in 65th place, saw her maintain an average pace of 6:16 per mile, completing the race in 2:43:58.

The accomplished athlete publicly acknowledged that the Boston race would be her final ‘proper’ marathon for the foreseeable future. “The body will need recovery more than normal at the minute,” she stated, recognising the importance of prioritising her health during pregnancy. During an interview with Runner’s World, Hauger-Thackery expressed that the need for structured training had not diminished despite her condition. “It would almost be weird for me to just stop training and not have any goals,” she remarked, illustrating her commitment to maintaining fitness as a key part of her identity.
Reflecting on her experience during the race, Hauger-Thackery shared that the second half of the marathon was smooth, while the first half presented significant challenges, particularly with discomfort in her right glute. However, her resilience shone through, and with the aid of medical support, she pushed through the obstacles faced during the race.

Social media played a prominent role in Hauger-Thackery’s journey, with an Instagram post preceding the marathon expressing her gratitude for being able to participate. “Tomorrow I have no real goal other than to try and get me and our little legend our FIFTH finishers medal together,” she shared, noting the significance of the shared experience with her unborn son. Her sentiments reflected an understanding of the connection she is already building with her child, wishing to share stories of her marathon experiences in the future.
Furthermore, Hauger-Thackery’s celebration of her participation extended beyond herself. She expressed solidarity with other expectant mothers who pursue ambitions while navigating the challenges of pregnancy. “Thank you to all the other pregnant mummas taking on start lines and doing epic things while growing a human,” she wrote, acknowledging the collective effort of women striving to excel.
In addition to the race, she had the opportunity to meet Kathrine Switzer, the trailblazing woman who became the first female to officially run the Boston Marathon. This encounter resonated deeply with Hauger-Thackery, who described it as a powerful reminder of the progress women have made in athletics. “I feel really lucky that I’ve felt so supported on this journey I’m on,” she commented after the meeting, highlighting the importance of community in her marathon journey.
In a heartwarming tribute to her husband, who also participated in the marathon and finished in 34th place with a time of 2:12:05, Hauger-Thackery revealed her joy at sharing such milestones together. “Wowwww, the stars really did align for us this year,” she wrote, emphasising the enriching experience of tackling this monumental event as a team.
As she prepares for motherhood, Calli Hauger-Thackery continues to inspire with her achievements and unwavering spirit. The Boston Marathon serves not only as a significant milestone in her athletic career, but also as a unique chapter in her journey towards motherhood, melding her personal ambitions with the anticipation of welcoming a new member to her family. Her story embodies resilience and determination, encouraging many to pursue their passions regardless of the challenges life may present.
